That's like when Archie Bunker said to that the only way to prevent airplane hijackings was to arm your passengers.

Now as far as teachers carrying guns on school grounds: Are you quite certain that possessing a teaching certificate makes one mentally equipped to carry a firearm? Because, and I realize I'm 50 years old, but when I was a kid, we had some real wackadoo fucking teachers.

Plus, what does the nebbish, bookwormish teacher do when rushed for his/her weapon?

Maybe you were joking, but that's a ridiculous idea. Just my opinion.

I don't see how this will help. Teachers are not trained in shooting or handling emergency situations. Two people having guns in a room will be no better than one person having a gun. It might be worse.

okay that was a bad idea, but what usally brings a school shooting up (through the history) is bulling, abuse at home, or mental problems. now the school could help out with the abuse if they find out, but really though the main one here is the bulling which happens in every school. if the gun idea dont work then the teachers need to help out, and get rid of the bulling in schools.

If a kid comes to school and shoots a bunch of kids, I'm sure there is more to that kids life problems than being bullied by other children. The problem more likely stems from home, and there's nothing we can do about that. There's no way to stop these shootings.

well see that is where i come in by saying the teachers should have guns to defend...along with training. or the state could pay for security at the schools.

You are going to disagree with me but I feel someone in the schools should pack a gun. That way if a piece of shit comes in killing let a teacher or a security guard take the piece of shit out by popping him in the knee while they are waiting for the cops.

Why not just arm all the kids? I'm sure they'd be better shots than half the teachers and security guards.

A lot of schools have at least one police officer there during the day. Mine did.

As they said on an episode of West Wing, if you think that the answer to a shooting is that more guns, remember that the President gets shot while being guarded by the best-trained and well-armed security force in history.

i would think security guards are trained for this...if not then get police officers. they need something better than security cameras, and if something like virgina tech would happen again they need to get the info out way sooner then what they did.

You are right BAM. Something has to be done. It's sad when you have to worry about the kids when you send them off to school. It's not even safe to go to church anymore.

My high school was pretty small. Probably less than 1,500 students.

I remember that day well. Wow, ten years ago. I'm sure those involved are still getting over that horrible experience.

The high school next door to mine had a lockdown today (bomb scare). I wonder if the anniversary date had anything to do with it.

Anway, God bless all the victims. frown

well mine was near 700 to 750 students, and it wasnt funed correctly...really though security needs to be risen in every school funded by the state.

We used to have lockdowns all the time. People calling in bomb scares and whatnot. This was all post-columbine, of course.

I remember after the shooting at my Son's high school they weren't allowed to wear trenchcoats.

A lot of what most people know about Columbine is wrong.
