Did Douglas perhaps deserve more of a starring role in the film? I don't even know why he was necessary. An homage to Merle Johnson. Another useless "wasp" that did nothing to develop the plot. ![lol lol](/threads/images/graemlins/classic/lol.gif) Was Douglas a lawyer or a judge?
PB you are a genius! Douglas and Merle have givn me the inspiration for a GF IV. See the Appropriate Thread.

Very true. And I think, almost 20 years down the line, that we could have had a much better part III...and deep down, if FFC hadn't treated the project as just a funding exercise for himself...then it could have been a classic in the mould of its untouchable predecessors.
Sonny - Well then, business will have to suffer, all right? And listen, do me a favor, Tom. No more advice on how to patch things up, just help me win, please

What? Opera not exciting?? Why do you insult me this way? Wait till Turnbull hears about this.
The use of "Cavalleria Rusticana" was a suitable metaphor for the denouement of the Trilogy--and of Michael's life. what does Cavalleria Rusticana have to do with Michael's life? I myself don't understand the metaphor...although I absolutely love the song (its in the IPOD!) LOL

As for Connie, I can accept the views given here, but in the 20 or so times that I’ve seen the film, I still can’t quite get her. Her eagerness to get the certifiable Vincent into the chair seems foolhardy to say the least. She tells Vincent that he’s the only one with his fathers strength, not only is this a veiled dig at Michaels purported weakness, but its also a downright lie. Vito’s strengths lay in reason, not biting people’s ears off. Connie is sneaky and underhand throughout the film, referencing Fredo’s death via drowning, but not questioning Neri’s survival. She knows Mike had her brother killed and she can’t have liked it. I think she’d been working for years to get Vincent into the family and to take it over, from there she can watch on as Mike pathetically fades away. This is just a theory though, can never be proved or disproved. I just don’t get Connie in this film. I have read people’s responses and I guess that’s the answer, but it’s still not clear to me, I guess it never will be. HF, I would agree with some of your points about Sicily myself. I appreciate that FFC was trying to show us the old country, but I agree- at this point it's really not about Sicily. However, I do disagree about Connie...I think that after all the years of denial, she finally gave in and accepted that maybe Fredo was a traitor, and that he deserved to die. Also, I don't think she was trying to put Michael "out to pasture", from my POV it seemed she was trying to shelter him, protect him from any other enemies that were still targeting the Corleones. Remember at the party, she speaks up...saying Joey Zaza runs the neighborhoods poorly! So obviously she couldn't be condemning Michael, it seemed to me more like defense for Michael and her nephew. It also seems that she was bringing Vincent in, because she knew what he was, and (I believe) she wanted him on board because he reminded all of them of Sonny. Vincent did have the strength of Vito, but as far as experience, highly unbelievable to be a Don that quick. I also liked FFC's direction of her (Connie) character. For instance, when they discuss how to whack Joey, she's there with Neri and Vincent (in a church for crying out loud LOL) and she tells both of them to "do it". Boy, was she gangster in part 3! I for one really enjoyed her character in GF3....really, even more than I did in parts 1 and 2.
