England's Millvina Dean, the last survivor of the Titanic, opposed all attempts to raise the wreck of the ship in which her father died in 1912. She said it would be horrible.

Yet, not long before her death (May 31), she was forced to auction off some of her mementos to pay her nursing home bills. Some "Titanic" actors came to her aid. Which ones?

The sinking: Dean was 2 months old when she was bundled aboard a lifeboat with her mother and brother after the ship hit an iceberg off the coast of Newfoundland. They were among the more than 700 people rescued out of the 2,000-plus passengers and crew who had sailed.

If I'm not mistaken, she died just the other day.

I believe it was both DiCaprio and Winslet who both put donated an equal amount of money. However, I don't remember the exact figure.

I heard on NPR that she learned she was on the Titantic when she was 8 years old.

I am sickened by some news I just read on Facebook... one of my co-workers, and a really sweet gal, lost her 21 year old daughter yesterday. Apparently the kid went out with friends on Saturday night, said "goodbye" to her mom and told her that she wouldn't be home. Sometime on Sunday she fell, hit her head and died.

Life is so fragile.

You're absolutely right about the fragility of life. The Harrisburg High School graduation last week was destroyed by news that a very popular teacher was killed in a car accident the night before.

Thats awful news SC.

I am sorry to hear it

It seems tragedy is everywhere. A 14 year old was beaten to death by 5 gang members on his way home from school. His parents had transferred him out of one school 5 weeks prior.

Then Saturday 2 teens drowned while going on a boat ride to celebrate one of the teen's High School graduation. The 18 year old graduated that morning, and died that night. His parent's are questioning it as the trip consisted of the two dead teens and a 3rd, and the boat owner, who was the uncle of the 3rd. The 18 year old's parent said he swam in bad current before, and they saw no reason why he could not have handled himself in this situation. It's ironic the only teen to survive was the nephew of the boat's owner. The father viewed his son's body and he had whelps and bruises and a busted lip. Now, that could have come from part of hitting the bottom of the ocean, but who knows.

SC, I am so sorry to hear about your friends sad news. I'll keep the family in my thoughts and prayers.

WASHINGTON - A key Senate vote Monday put Congress in sight of fulfilling a decade-old quest to put the content and marketing of tobacco products under the control of the federal government.

The legislation would for the first time give the Food and Drug Administration legal authority to regulate cigarettes and other tobacco products. The 61-30 Senate vote to move forward on the bill sets up possible passage of the measure this week. Sixty votes were needed to keep the bill on track.

The House has already passed a similar bill and resolution of minor differences would send it to President Barack Obama, who supports it.

I should be in bed, I have a 14 hour day tomorrow in 6 and a half hours.
