His talent and mark on music can NOT be denied and for that he'll be remembered as a great talent. However, the big stain is not on his career but is personal life. (Don't know what JMO YMMV means). I have a hard time praising his talent without thinking of his personal behavior and it makes my grief (so to speak) uneven. No what I mean?
