From the website of a school district in North Carolina: "President Barack Obama will deliver a national address to encourage students to set high academic goals and to do their best to succeed in school.
Any parent who wishes for his/her children not to participate may “opt out” by contacting the school(s) where the children are enrolled. Principals will be contacting parents by various means, such as with forms, electronic mail, websites, or via an announcement on the educational television station. If parents have any questions, they should call the school(s) where the children attend." Because we wouldn't want the President to encourage THAT!!!

I'm not saying he is or isn't. I'm just saying he don't need to be preaching to our kids about political policies. And you don't need to be molesting kids!

Well whatever he talks about I will talk to my kid about it and see how he feels about his speech. Yes the man is our President and I respect him as that but that is as far as it goes. I don't agree with his views. Are you saying that President Obama is a liar with a secret agenda??? How do you know that he don't have one?

Only to the extent that she is suggesting that President Obama is or will be preaching to our kids about political policies. You wanna argue politics with Mignon? Fine, bash her brains out, but that statement about Mig being a child molester is way out of line and you owe her an apology.

...Correction the office deserves respect not the man, the man has to earn the respect. EXACTLY! As far as that ridiculous Obama 'address' to students goes...I read that it will be directed at Grades 7-12, which thankfully eliminates my child. However, had she been in the selected 'age-range and our school district decided to show it I was fully prepared to keep her out of school that day. God help America when any President of the United States decides to pull kids from their classrooms in the middle of a school day to hear HIM preach on a screen about about the importance of a good education. Maybe if this one ever released his own school records (not to mention U.S. Birth Certificate), he would have some credibility in that department. Frankly, I think he's specifically aiming to enamor himself to the many children who will be of voting age in 2012. Apple

There even have been times that we've probably pissed each other off with what we've exchanged through posts to each other. But I must tell you, saying something like this about another board member, especially someone like Mignon, really takes the cake. I'm going to chalk it off to sheer ignorance on your part instead of malice. You're way out of line and Mignon deserves a personal APOLOGY TOPIC FROM YOU!!!

...It worries me more that much of our youth is being exposed to backwards thinking in their own homes. Unfortunately, that is always going to happen (thankfully to no child that I happen to know ). Look...even if Obama means well with this little 'speech' he plans to give, he picked the wrong time in his very young and very failing Presidency to give it. Only 7 months in & he's attempting to inject himself and his administration and his government into just about every aspect of American life. It's too much, he's got to sit back and learn to govern and negotiate and get out of our faces, especially with the very real looming threat of losing the House and/or Senate majority next year. Apple ps...joining those who are anxiously awaiting that 'apology' to another BB member who has got to be one of the NICEST people here!

...I feel better knowing that you don't discuss politics with your daughter.... Guess again. However, if 'little Commies' (according to Imus) like Paul Begala can brag to the entire country that they are raising a bunch of 'little liberals', then I suppose it's the right of every parent to share their own political views with their children. Now all of a sudden the "office" needs respect, not the President. That's funny, when the Bush bashing was going on all people could say was how he was the President and deserved respect.
Why should people be upset that The President is speaking to kids. No one mind that Bush was reading to children during 9/11....the man who can barely put two sentences together. I sure hope it was a pop-up book. Why is it that anytime somneone disagrees with what this President does, it always reverts back to Bush? What in the world does former President Bush have to do with what current President Obama is attempting to do? What does his reading to kids have to do with President Obama speaking to kids Now if you want to talk about respecting the office of the President and bring out skeletons from the closet, we can always talk about former President Bill Clinton and how he direspected the office of the president! But that would have absolutely NOTHING to do with what this President is attempting and what's being discussed about it. It would only serve to divert from the real topic that is being debated. Personally I don't see what's so bad about his wanting to talk to the children of our country and the importance of education. But perhaps it's because I am not that familiar with the content of that talk that he will be giving to the children.

... Now all of a sudden the "office" needs respect, not the President. .... Sure. That's how many felt when Clinton was President as well. I remember during the Bush years I knew a fellow on another 'chat board' who was about as liberal as they come, and hated G.W. Bush with a venom that was difficult to match (I'll never forget his online meltdown on Election Night 2004). However, he maintained many times over the years that he was teaching his young daughters that 'the office' of the President must be respected even if one felt the current 'holder' was a piece of trash. .... the hypocrites didn't like it when Bush was talked about, that's why? Does that answer your question?... Silly girl. Nobody likes it when the President they happen to support is being disrespected or talked about negatively. It's human nature, and they're naturally going to defend the actions/decisions of that President (or Senator, or Governor, or Congressman). But it's kind've ridiculous to get upset at people who are suggesting that while they do respect the Office of the President of the United States, they might not necessarily feel the same about one Barack Obama, who has not yet earned their respect. If you don't want a President getting their cocked suck in the White House vote a woman in.
OK! Sarah Palin in 2012!!!! It used to be a time if the President talked to your kids it was wonderful, now people protest. As I said, I don't see why people are making a big deal about the President talking to children about the importance of education. Could it be that those who are so frightened by this are frightened because deep down they are insecure because they have not taught their kids to have an open mind but at the same time think for themselves? I don't know. Can someone PLEASE explain to me why so many are offended by the President wanting to talk to the children of this nation about the importance of a good education? BTW BETH, I love it when you talk dirty!

They're not offended by the President wanting to talk to the children of this Nation. Any "offense" is a product of a kind of sticker shock as a result of recent political changes. Conservatives controlled the Congress for 12 years until 2007 and also the White house for the last 8 years of that 12 until. In the course of two short years though, Conservatives lost control of both the Congress and the WH. Conservatives haven't figured out how or why. Then you have to acknowledge the role that the recession has played in all this and the fact that we elected a black President. For some people it's all just too much. Of course, you then have people who find solace in talk show hosts such as Hannity and Glen Beck plying their listeners with the tonic that Obama is an aberration or that Obama is an illegitimate President or that the Nation is on the road to socialism. Feeling rather powerless to stop it all, some people choose something to rant and rave about that they are familar with such as public schools. The foregoing plays a large part in any objections. PERHAPS YOU MISSED MY POST ON THE LAST PAGE. IF YOU DID HERE IT IS AGAIN: I'm not saying he is or isn't. I'm just saying he don't need to be preaching to our kids about political policies.
