There were a few novelty records from that period.... Goodman's was the best (or worst, depending on your view) of them. Check out how many great singers and songs were used in making this recording:

Anyone remember these lyrics? I had it by Jan & Dean but I think the original was from the 50's.
A fun song. smile

Who put the bomp
In the bomp bah bomp bah bomp
Who put the ram
In the rama lama ding dong
Who put the bop
In the bop shoo bop shoo bop
Who put the dip
In the dip da dip da dip
Who was that man
I'd like to shake his hand
He made my baby
Fall in love with me (yeah)

TIS, I remember it like it was just yesterday. How about "26 Miles Across the Sea"?

Also, how about the instrumentals like "Telstar", and "Red River Rock (which was Red River Valley redone)"?

I do remember, but I aways thought the title was Santa Catalina. confused

Telstar was one of my favorite instrumentals and I liked Red River Valley too. Of course, very big in the late 50's, A Summer Place.

What about "Stranger on the Shore" by Acker Bilk? Perhaps the most hauntingly beautiful instrumental I've EVER heard.

Sure I do. A very beautiul song. Wasn't there a famous instrumental from the movie, "The Summer of '42"? Remember that one?

Also, although I don't know when the original release was, "Tequila" is a very very famous tune as well. smile

I had to listen to it.... and you guys and gals might enjoy it as well. It's Acker Bilk playing "Stranger on the Shore" from the early '60s. There is something so sad about it, something so hauntingly beautiful.....

Fans of the movie, "Mr. Holland's Opus" will recognize this song. This is what Mr. Holland was teaching the young gal who later went on to become governor of California. Enjoy!

I'll add one more - "Harlem Nocturne". I consider this the quintessential New York City instrumental. It somehow captures the feel of the City at night.

Written a long time ago, it gained its most popularity as the the theme song for "Mickey Hammer" (a tough NYC private investigator).

Very cool, very New York!

Yes TIS, "Santa Catalina, the island of romance, romance, romance, romance."

I forgot about Acker Bilk and "Summer Place". How about the theme from "Exodus"? I remember that I taught myself to play it on the piano ... white keys only. And "Moon River".

Geez, a homeowner now. Next you'll be getting a 9-5 job, and then you'll be getting married.

You're becoming too respectable for me.

Congratulations Geoff! I'm sure your love all the room in a house. How many bedrooms? 1 story or 2? Big yard? Fill us in, or better yet post a picture of yourself sitting on his front porch swing grin

Good luck. I know how exciting buying a home is.

Thanks, TIS smile

The listing might read 4 BR, but technically only 2. It's a split level (half flight up, half flight down, from the main level). Master bedroom attached to an office room (walk thru the office to get to master; perfect for me), plus a guest room, plus another "bedroom" but without a closet (so technically not a real bedroom), but for me a storage room probably.

2 full baths, but, the downstairs bath -- which is HUGE -- also has the laundry facilities. And a huge jacuzzi tub for my back. grin Family room is also downstairs, middle is kitchen and dining/living room (no need for living room, so mostly a dining room), and upstairs are all the bedrooms and office.

Large yard used to have an in-ground pool so eventually I'll have to fix that up, but still nice size. He left the beautiful cedar furniture.

Garage is attached, but only accessible from outside unless/until I add a door, but it's nice and big. Better than I have now, since I have nothing, so no biggy. smile

Kitchen is on the small side, but nicely done. Grill in the stove-top might get some use. smile

I'm mostly happy just to finally have a dishwasher, food disposal, washer and dryer! cool

Geoff, I am so very happy for you!! What a thrill! And I'm glad that you took advantage of the buyer's market, the great rates and the tax credit for first-time home buyers!

May your home be filled with happiness, sweetie. You deserve it.

And Mr. Babe wants to come by and hang out at the pool. And perhaps play a game of "catch". whistle
