Blib, In the almost 30 years I've lived in CA, we've had some rolling earthquakes, shaky quakes and to me the scariest "jolt" shake. It is very scary and sometimes yes, I wonder if the big one will hit. I live by the San Andreas fault. If I'm not mistaken that goes right to upper CA too no? But, I think you might be by another fault that I can't think of the name of. Anyway, I pray it doesn't happen but every now and then (like now with this quake)I do wonder. The fact that earthquake insurance costs an arm and a leg stops anyone from buying it wouldn't help in the aftermath. It is a gamble, but how devastating would that be. And with California so broke, I wonder how much aid we'd get from our State. Damn, now you got me scared. It'll pass though. TIS

I live by the San Andreas fault. If I'm not mistaken that goes right to upper CA too no? But, I think you might be by another fault that I can't think of the name of. San Andreas is the major fault in Cal. Like any fault it has the potential for a large quake, but from what I understand it's not quite as dangerous because it's so large and shifts more often giving us constant small quakes, relieving the pressure that builds up. Some of the smaller fault lines are the scary ones, like the Hayward fault (I mentioned it earlier in this thread) which I live directly on top of. There hasn't been much activity on that fault so scientists say it has a higher chance of a large earthquake than most other faults. It runs through the center of most East Bay cities and one of the major hiways runs along the "valley" it has created over however many hundreds of years. I love earthquakes. It gives me a great adrenaline rush and it's so unreal feeling (the freaking earth moving!) that I get excited. I do think about it from time to time though when I'm in a tall building or driving across the major bridges every day. Can be scary. I prefer the unexpectedness of it over a predictable hurricane that will almost definitely do damage. Earthquakes rarely do.

I know there's a lot of them in CA, but Geez, seeing all the faults on the map SC posted is pretty scary isn't it. Blib, I get a rush alright, but I can't say excited over a potential quake. . There's probably been only a couple that gave me a real scare in the entire time I have lived here and none thankfully did any damage in my area. You bet, every time I drive on an overpass, I ALWAYS think "what if" and pray to God, "please not at this particular moment". There's nowhere to go but down. TIS

My Homeowner's Insurance bill came yesterday. My premium for 2010 went up 54%! I called and asked why. They said the "tables" were revised and the increase was due to higher risk in Atlantic County (also, Cape May, Ocean, Monmouth, Gloucester,,,,watch out Geoff). The value of my house goes down and my insurance goes up. My anus hurts today.

My brother-in-law's girlfriend, who is in her early thirties, was diagnosed today with cervical cancer. She's a hard working pleasant girl, who's gearing up for a long battle. Sorry to hear that, Klyd. Every woman needs to be vaccinated.

Higher risk of what?? Before renewing I'd shop around for coverage elsewhere... Says the homeowner of two months . That's like taking marriage advice from a newlywed .

Televangelist Pat Robertson said Wednesday that earthquake-ravaged Haiti has been "cursed" by a "pact to the devil."
"Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it," he said on Christian Broadcasting Network's "The 700 Club." "They were under the heel [SIC] of the French. You know, Napoleon the third, or whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, we will serve you if you will get us free from the French. True story. And so, the devil said, okay it's a deal."
Robertson said that "ever since they have been cursed by one thing after the other" and he contrasted Haiti with its neighbor, the Dominican Republic.
"That island of Hispaniola is one island. It is cut down the middle on the one side is Haiti the other is the Dominican Republic," he said. "Dominican Republic is prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, etc. Haiti is in desperate poverty. Same island. They need to have and we meed to pray for them a great turning to god and out of this tragedy I'm optimistic something good may come. But right now we are helping the suffering people and the suffering is unimaginable."
"When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives." Winter is Coming
Now this is the Law of the Jungleāas old and as true as the sky; And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die. As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk, the Law runneth forward and back; For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.
