Rush Limbaugh Stands by Haiti Comments
From CBS News
Controversial conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh is defending earlier comments in which he accused President Obama of using the disaster in Haiti for political gain.
"I do believe that everything is political to this president," Limbaugh said on his radio show yesterday. "Everything this president sees is a political opportunity, including Haiti, and he will use it to burnish his credentials with minorities in this country and around the world, and to accuse Republicans of having no compassion."
President Obama has dedicated $100 million for immediate relief efforts in Haiti, calling it a "top priority." The president has not politicized the matter or criticized Republicans' response to the disaster. Republicans, in fact, have largely expressed their support for the president's efforts.
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs did accuse Limbaugh specifically of having no compassion after his original remarks: "I think in times of great crisis, there are always people that say really stupid things," Gibbs said yesterday. "I don't know how anybody -- I don't know how anybody could sit where he does, having enjoyed the success that he has, and not feel some measure of sorrow for what has happened in Haiti."
The conservative magazine the National Review defended a portion of Limbaugh's original comments in which he questioned the effectiveness of giving aid to Haiti via the government.
"On the facts, Rush is right," writes Jim Geraghty. "The tale of U.S. foreign aid to Haiti is maddening, as well-meaning Americans dump more and more money to alleviate suffering, only to see little or no actual improvement in the living conditions on the ground."
Geraghty points to a Reuters article outlining a history of corrupt and weak civil services in Haiti that has slowed the distribution of American aid. Now, in the aftermath of this giant earthquake, the biggest challenge for government and private relief efforts alike is the lack of infrastructure available to move supplies.
Former President Bill Clinton on the CBS "Early Show" disputed Limbaugh's earlier claims that "we've already donated to Haiti. It's called the U.S. income tax."
"Well that's just not true," Clinton said. "We give a modest amount of aid."
It will take significant resources to help the people of Haiti recover. CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller reports that the American public has responded to the Haiti crisis so far by donating more than $8 million to the American Red Cross for Haiti relief — $10 dollars at a time — by texting HAITI to 90999. The Red Cross successfully implemented the text-to-donate solution with the assistance of the U.S. State Department and the promotion of the Obama Administration.

I believe I am embodying the term "multi-tasking". And your GBB is your most proficient effort. My wife works with a woman who can "mono-task"....and that's it. Then her boss attempts to multi-task while making out the payroll checks. She hasn't gotten them right yet.

It really takes a "special" sort of person to look at a catastrophe that may well have taken the lives of more than 100,000 people and IMMEDIATELY either blame the people or blame the US president. Politics aside, I just don't get that. But on a lighter note here's someone that saved a dog's life (and I don't think it was even his dog) Man gives puppy CPR

Unemployment 10% Coincidence? The following is an excerpt from a USA Today article: "America's jobs crisis affects all of us — from university Ph.D.s to recent high school graduates. Every month produces additional pink slips for autoworkers, radiologists and computer engineers. In three years, we have lost nearly 3 million private-sector jobs. Manufacturers have slashed payrolls for 43 straight months. We have shed half a million information jobs since December ... , nearly as many as we added the preceding three years. The so-called recovery began more than two [months] ago, but still there are three unemployed workers for every job opening, and thousands have abandoned the workforce." Now, here's the catch: the article was written in 2004. Our Nation's economy is gigantically complex. Trying to tie its condition to anyone variable or even trying to estimate the influence upon it of one variable is beyond what we can accomplish on this Board.

Everything hurts now... it's not just about a tooth any more. It's shooting into my skull, and down my already-bad shoulder. Before today, it was bad, but not terrible. Yesterday it was terrible, but today it became tender. Can hardly eat now. I can't believe I've taken no more than 2 measly Percs in a day. And I think I can handle another day, but come Monday -- a full 2 weeks before my appointment -- my wrath will spill upon Toms River and SOMEONE will perform the root canal that day or the next. Not 2 more fucking weeks of this shit!
Anyway... how are you? Sorry I haven't been around much, with the whole writhing in pain thing.... lol

Guess who's back folks. LANGLEY, Va. – A group led by anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan has protested near the CIA's headquarters and former Vice President Dick Cheney's home in northern Virginia.
They were protesting the use of unmanned drone aircraft to attack al-Qaida and Taliban targets.
The group of about 70 people rallied alongside a highway near the CIA compound Saturday. About half then marched to Cheney's nearby street and stayed for 20 minutes. Police kept them from going down his street.
Sheehan's 21-year-old son Casey was killed in Iraq in April 2004. She staged a prolonged demonstration outside former President George W. Bush's ranch near Crawford, Texas, in 2005.
She says using drones is "cowardly" and "immoral." Since it was a short article I decided to quote the whole thing. Article Does she even know that Cheney is no longer VP, she's either really stupid, or she just wants her name in the freaking spotlight again. Come on now Geoff you're not really in pain you're just trying to get some sympathy

Lilo Limbaugh did not blame the people or the president, he simply stated that he believes that Obama will use this earthquake to gain political points. I sincerely believe he is right And I believe that Limbaugh is rather transparently projecting his own twisted rationales onto the President. There is virtually nothing that the President has ever said or done with which Limbaugh has not found some ulterior motive. And while Limbaugh's language drips with hatred and contempt for black people (and women for that matter-he told a woman that disagreed with his Haiti comments that she had tampons in her ears)-accusing the President of wanting to help Haiti just to burnish his credentials with "light skinned and dark skinned black people", "minorities in this country and around the world" is just bizarre. Who thinks like that? And it's also wrong on the facts. Not only are the President's before earthquake poll numbers about as high as ever among Black Americans, ANY President of the US would be arranging to send aid/relief to Haiti. There's nothing sinister or self-serving about it. It's just what people do in times of crisis. What people don't generally do is try to turn something into a political/racial football while there are unknown dead and many more lives still at risk.

My husband's department was outsourced years ago. He was able to hang on because he was promoted to be the liaison between the contractor and his company. It's happening more and more often. I'm employed because I'm an outsource. Verizon is sending more and more jobs to off-premise/contractors. Let's face it; overseas work is sucking jobs away from the USA. Those wonderful "red" companies compete by having lower overhead by paying wages in India instead of Indiana. Yup, that's the deal. It's all about cost. The new head of company wide applications development is from India (about 4 levels in management up from me) and in a recent leadership meeting he made it perfectly clear to all that outsourcing was going to continue and that he wasn't at all interested in hearing contrary views. His sidekick actually said that our company was running a percentage point below average industry turnover so if someone didn't like the direction, just leave because we'd be doing them a favor. There is much greater management integration as well: more and more US teams are actually reporting to hubs in India. My take is that it's the old tension between what's in one's individual interest and what's in the public interest. Because of greater efficiencies in communication and education, there's very little in terms of IT services that couldn't be outsourced to save money. However if everyone does that it puts a big damper on consumer spending. Although I can't honestly say that the quality of the outsourced work is as bad as some would tell you, I can't say it's good either. You get what you pay for. There's no way that Americans can compete on cost nor should we. But I don't think Americans have completely thought out the social costs of continuing to transfer large swaths of manufacturing to China and services to India. Those Americans who work in jobs that can't be outsourced because of either the nature of the job or the barriers to entry are indeed fortunate in some respects.

At some times people have to put politics aside. Right now the people of Haiti need help. How has political discourse degenerated where such a thing as Limbaugh's "analysis" is possible? Even Buchanan criticized Limbaugh. Limbaugh is accusing the President of the United States of America of looking at pictures like the one below and seeing political opportunity. Picture is EXTREMELY graphic and HIGHLY disturbing. I am definitely NOT kidding about this.

Okay, but what about this pearl of wisdom: "There is no need to send money to Haiti; you already do so by paying U.S. taxes." ----From The Rush Limbaugh ShowWhether or not he blamed the President or not is really inconsequential. How can he---how can anyone---glibly tell such a large audience that they shouldn't concern themselves with sending relief money to disaster victims? And this coming from one of the wealthiest people in the history of radio? Limbaugh has become nothing short of a shock jock. He's Howard Stern without the wit or empathy. What's worse, he's also gone from right wing pundit to outright hatemonger.

I thought that Craig Ferguson had the best response to Limbaugh's hateful rant. http://www.mediaite.com/tv/craig-ferguso...-rush-limbaugh/How come Rush didn't say that President Bush's response to the horrific tsunami was an attempt to shore up the Asian vote?? Because it wasn't. It was an act of compassion, just like President Obama's assistance to Haiti. It's what people do. When you're neighbor's house is on fire, he doesn't question your offer to lend him your garden hose. He takes it for what it is, an offer to help.

What's worse, he's also gone from right wing pundit to outright hatemonger. Sometimes one of the things that gets ignored in all of this is the fact that there is an audience for those inane type of statements. As our Nation's population increases, so does the total number of people who will listen to Limbaugh type rantings. That's why there is also a large audience for Palin. If one is able to acquire a 10% audience for something, that equals 30 million and that generates the revenue that broadcasters, retailers, et al look for. By the way, US Foreign Aid to Haiti since 1990 totals about $1.5 billion. There is none at this point

Advil/Motrin... could it be???? Percs (Tylenol+Heroin lol) worked or didn't, depending. Then my brother (an MD) called and suggested I mixed in some Ibuprofen, so figured why not. I actually took *1* Advil and was practically pain-free for like 4 hours!! You kidding me?? I always got almost no relief from Acetaminophen (Tylenol/Percs/T3/etc), ever -- but Aleve always helped a little (but I ran out). Motrin/Advil/Ibuprofen was okay as a backup, but it seems it's really stepped forward for this. Hope it wasn't a coincidence. I'll still be on a rampage tomorrow, tho! Gotta end this!

I'm on my 3rd or 4th tube of Oragel. And maybe the Advil was just a fluke -- just woke up dying, so will try another.
