Don't know if this exactly fits in with the current conversation but...
Things have changed a whole lot. I remember when buying a holster/gun set for a gift for my nephews was a great idea. I myself, when I was little, being somewhat of a tomboy would join in playing cowboys/Indians pretend shooting/killing. Is it totally unacceptable to own these toys any more? Geez, a gun/holster was always the perfect gift for a little boy.
I remember my little brother loving is plastic army men, playing blow 'em up and killing the bad guy. I can still hear his blasting sounds he'd make as he was pretending.
Just an observation I guess.
