WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama unveiled a multitrillion-dollar spending plan Monday, pledging an intensified effort to combat high unemployment and asking Congress to quickly approve new job-creation efforts that would boost the deficit to a record-breaking $1.56 trillion.
Obama's new budget blueprint preaches the need to make tough choices to restrain run-away deficits, but not before attacking what the administration sees as the more immediate challenge of lifting the country out of a deep recession that has cost 7.2 million jobs over the past two years.

The result is a budget plan that would give the country trillion-dollar-plus deficits for three consecutive years. Obama's new budget projects a spending increase of 5.7 percent for the current budget year and forecasts that spending would rise another 3 percent in 2011 to $3.83 trillion.

I love how people call for "more work", but then don't believe workers are entitled to their share of the self-expanding profits at the top of the bourgeois ladder.

WASHINGTON - The military's top uniformed officer declared Tuesday that gays should be allowed to serve openly in uniform, arguing that it is "the right thing to do."

Adm. Mike Mullen's statement was the strongest yet from the uniformed military on this volatile issue, although he stressed that he was "speaking for myself and myself only."

It IS the right thing to do. That's an understatement.

I was surprised that McCain came out against it. He must have served with gays in the military. If he had been in that prison camp with a gay soldier, would he have thought less of that man? I don't get it.

McCain is wishy washy. They showed a video of him a few years ago with the opposite stance.

The unemployment rate, calculated using a household survey, fell to 9.7% last month from an unrevised 10% in December, the Labor Department said Friday. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires had forecast the jobless rate would edge higher to 10.1%.

New Poll shows Obama with a 46% approval rating which on its face looks bad, except the aproval rating of the Republican Party is lower, and amazingly a large plurality have not heard of the tea party.Lowest on the totem pole, and deservedly so is congress.

Who are the people in these polls? Are they asking more Dems than Reps or visa versa?

Many people have not heard of the Tea Party. I had to explain it to my daughters who don't have the interest in politics like I do. I agree though, and I think that's true probably of a large majority of people. However, by next election I think they'll be spreading their "word" (hate) and wouldn't count anything out as a possibility. Many people are gullible.

They have polls every day it seems. It makes your head spin. On Huffington Post the other day they had a poll that showed Obama losing to a yet to be determined candidate with something like 38 per cent of the vote. A "mystery" candidate? Ha ha ha. The media is loving this aren't they?

Democrat Evan Bayh of Ind. to retire from Senate

WASHINGTON – Sen. Evan Bayh, a centrist Democrat from Indiana, announced Monday that he won't seek a third term in Congress, giving Republicans a chance to pick up a Senate seat.

"To put it in words I think most people can understand: I love working for the people of Indiana, I love helping our citizens make the most of their lives, but I do not love Congress," Bayh said at a news conference Indianapolis, where he was joined by his wife and two sons.

The departure of Bayh, who was on President Barack Obama's short list of vice presidential candidate prospects in 2008, continues a recent exodus from Congress among both Democrats and Republicans, including veteran Democrats Christopher Dodd of Connecticut and Patrick Kennedy of Rhode Island.

That evidently is quite a shock. Nobody saw it coming it seems. I think a lot of people are getting fed up.

I've also read and heard rumors as well that 2
Supreme Court Justices may also be retiring,
John Paul Stevens and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I don't know how valid these rumors are, but if true, look for yet another two nominations for the Supreme Court.
