When we were in Florida in November, we did an Everglades airboat ride. It was terrific, and lots of fun. I was in the end seat, so I had the best seat. November is a good month for that type of day trip. Not as many "no-see-ums" (microscopic mosquitos). If you go during the stifling, rainy, summer season, the bugs are torture.

Orange County CA: This guy is known as the Dating Game Killer. Evidently he was recently convicted (February) of murdering 4 women and a child in the late 70's. He was already convicted for raping an 8 year old girl in 1968. He got this name because he appeared on the tv show The Dating Game in 78 and won. The news is reporting today they just "found" tons of photographs that they think may be even more girls he's murdered. Now they also reported that these pics are on-line and the police have gotten many calls from women who recognized themselves and called to say they were ok. Yet, they suspect some of these girls were not as lucky. They say Acala's MO was to pose as a photographer and take pictures of young girls. I just played the "Dating Game" segment. Was it really that dumb? I assume that lady is still alive and well. TIS http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national...rder_spree.html

This woman won $100K in a federal lawsuit against the City of Detroit claiming that a co-worker's perfume made it impossible for her to do her job. The co-worker in question did not even work in the same department as McBride. As a result the city is now banning all colognes, perfumes, scented deodorants, aftershaves, scented lotions, etc... Now in my workplace I have the opposite problem with co-workers that seem to think that washing or wearing deodorant is optional. So I figure I ought to be able to get at least what McBride got. This would put my husband in heaven. He hates perfumes, colognes, scented candles, etc. We used unscented deodorants, unscented dryer sheets, unscented Downy, Tide Free, and so on. If I put on perfume, I have to wait until after he's left for work.

This woman won $100K in a federal lawsuit against the City of Detroit claiming that a co-worker's perfume made it impossible for her to do her job. Does this mean I can sue the city for having to smell the people next to me on the subway? Because just yesterday morning I went into Manhattan to visit my elderly aunt and I didn't want to drive because of all the downed trees and powerlines. So I'm on the 6 train, heading downtown, and this Indian guy sitting next to me smelled like curry and . . . . shit. It made it impossible for me to enjoy my coffee and buttered roll. Oh, the mental anguish.

Ron Lundy, a longtime radio dj in NYC died. He was on WABC (AM) during their hey-day when the Beatles and all the great rock'n'roll groups dominated the air. When the station went to all-talk format during the '80s he moved to WCBS-FM, an all oldies station, still playing the great '50s/'60s tunes.
I guess I listened to him for some 25 years or so..... thanks for all those great hours, Ron, and R.I.P. "Hello, Love!" I remember him very well, SC. Another part of my childhood gone . RIP, Ron.

I just heard the news this afternoon while standing on the (interminable) line at my local post office. Very sad to hear. I certainly remember listening to him so many years ago. R.I.P. Signor V.

Plane kills beach jogger in emergency landing
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - A 38-year-old father of two was jogging and listening to his iPod when he was hit from behind and killed by a small plane making an emergency landing on the beach, officials said Tuesday.
Robert Gary Jones of Woodstock, Ga., died instantly Monday evening when he was hit by the single-engine plane, which had lost its propeller, said Beaufort County Coroner Ed Allen. The pilot's vision was blocked by oil on the windshield. Jones apparently did not see or hear the plane, which was "basically gliding," the coroner said.

My God!! That's awful. Depending on where you live, if you jog, you might think about getting mugged or kidnapped and pulled into a car, BUT getting hit by a plane???? Poor guy. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Geez, would listening to the IPod be that loud that you wouldn't hear a plane coming at you??? Anyway, talk about unlucky!! TIS

Dorothy Bourdet / Special to The Detroit News
Grosse Ile -- An armed Grosse Ile mother of three was shot and killed this morning by police in an apparent suicide-by-cop.
Police received an anonymous call at 3:18 a.m. believed to be from the woman claiming that someone had been shot. When they arrived at the Meridian Road residence on the north end of the island township, they found the 41-year-old woman in her backyard with a shotgun, said Grosse Ile Police Chief Joseph Porcarelli.
"The negotiations began and lasted approximately 30 minutes, with her constantly yelling at the officers for them to shoot her," Porcarelli said.
A team of six officers from Grosse Ile, Riverview, Trenton and Gibraltar were negotiating with the woman when she began walking toward them with her shotgun leveled.
"At that time, the officer felt he had no other choice but to fire on the female to stop the threat posed to him and the other officers," Porcarelli said.
A Gibraltar officer shot the woman once in the right side. She was taken to Oakwood Southshore Medical Center, where she died at 5:30 a.m., Porcarelli said.
The woman, who had recently separated from her husband, had three school-age children who were inside the house at the time of the incident. She left an apparent suicide note apologizing to her husband and family for what she was going to do and giving instructions for her burial.
"It's always sad to see an outcome like this," Porcarelli said. "This was a last resort."

Sounds like they didn't have much of a choice but to shoot her.
Isn't Grosse Ile a wealthy suburb, or is that Grosse Pointe? They are both wealthy areas. The various Grosse Pointes are wealthy and known for being so. Grosse Ile is also pretty well off but because it's literally downriver kind of flies under the radar a bit. It's a small insular little place. It is the safest place in Michigan and made Money's (or was it Fortune's)list of top places to live. There's only like something between 8,000 to 10,000 people there and there's just two bridges to the rest of the state. It's a nice place to visit and if I ever come into the possession of a few billion I'll buy the Island.

OMG, Yogi that's horrible. I'm sorry for your friend. Speaking of outliving your child. My niece (ex-niece- my ex's niece actually), is about 40. She had bone cancer in her leg about 5 years ago or so. Went to chemo off/on and they got the cancer, or so they thought. Long story short, it came back and has now spread thru her body. She is in the hospital with basically no hope. I am close to my ex's family and my heart is breaking for my ex-sister-in-law and her husband, who are just devastated. I remember her as a kid and can't stop thinking about her. I've been crying off/on just imagining their pain. TIS
