lol Maybe not so many moves this year. I have a lot of players that are locks.(unless they get hurt) I'm thrilled to get Santana in the 3rd rd, and Reyes in the 4th. With Reyes cleared to play today, I never thought he'd be around in the 4th round.

As far as the draft, I'm not so happy with my team. I think I have the best offense I've ever had, but I've always taken pride in my pitching in years past and my RP's are mediocre, and my SP's are SUPER high risk/high reward... looks like a DL disaster.

I'm interested to hear DB's, and anyone else's, analysis of the draft.

I checked your pitching. Yes, you should be concerned. You have many questions in both SP and RP.

I took a brief look at everyone's roster, and here is my quick analysis:

Bam: Flawed roster. Needs backups. SP above average. RP 'OK'.

DB: Average offense. Good SP and RP. Will probably be a contender with some tweaking.

Bedroom Bombers: Only has 10 position players. Roster will need major work.

God's Offal: Lots of offense, little pitching.

Yogi: Good offense. Average SP. Awful RP.

Yao's: Good offense, but missing backups at several positions. Slightly below average SP. A couple of good RP's, and a couple bad ones.

J.G.: Good offense. Questionable SP after Lincecum. Questionable RP.

Cruise Control: Good offense, but needs some backups. Questionable SP. Poor RP.

BL: Good offense. Lot of big question marks in SP. RP average with some question marks too.

TM has proven he knows baseball by improving each year, finishing 2nd last year, but I have to question this as well.

Do you have some new strategy up your sleeve TM?

I really don't know what he's thinking. He also has Beltran, who won't be ready until at least May.

Do I have some new strategy? not really. I do believe that the talent available in the latter rounds of the draft is about the same available now in the waiver wire, if you count sleepers, hot/slow starts and such, but you're better off leaning towards JL's thinking - I'm slipping;

this was by far the year I took the least pre-draft work (usually I got baseball fever) and to make it worse, I got home in a hurry and was doing too many things at once. I busted into my bedroom on my 1st pick countdown, messed up my 3rd pick (Upton over Crawford even though I have convinced myself it's better this way tongue ) and would've drafted two more closers if I had noticed they were still available by the time JL swiped'em.

I wasn't sure about Beltran's condition (that was my "pick from the heart") or about Stephen Strasburg's status for instance and yes, the draft was a disaster ohwell I always trust that I'll find sleepers for SP and RP and took too long to start concentrating on them, then once I did it, I forgot about the backups!

and now that you're into it, offensive shortages aside, how do you feel about my pitching? it all depends on Carpenter I think; what's the latest news on his health? what about Brandon Webb's?

I'm definitely not questioning picking Beltran. I planned on taking him in the next round myself. But that leaves you with 9 position players, and zero backups.

You have a large quantity of pitching. Whether there's any quality remains to be seen. You going to have to make a LOT of moves soon. AFAIK, Carpenter is fine, other than getting shelled the other day for 6 runs in the 1st inning. Webb is a big ?

My quick analysis after looking at the rosters (not very different from JL's):

BA - Needs a comeback from Soto and Soriano, killer top two SP, no obvious studs on offense

TM - Ibanez, Hamilton may prove to be steals in the rounds they were drafted; needs positional back-ups

VJ - Offense pretty impressive (McCann, Howard, Utley); pitching OK

YO - Decent for auto-draft; Will need to work out some backup situations

BB - Pretty strong team; Will need comebacks from "name" SPs; Will he get good Manny or bad Manny?

JL - As the Mets goes, so will JL's team; Dunn was a great get in the 8th round (multi-positional!); Mauer at pick 6 a surprise but he wouldn't have made it back to him anyway so had to pick him

JG - DeRo provides great flexibility; Needs more RPs; questions at SP; nice balanced offense

CC - Pretty good draft for the rookie; good get of Reimold with late round pick; Will need pitching help

BL - Votto pick a steal; Will need to address back-up positions; Pitching a risk

My team - OK, not overly excited about it. Over-reached for Zobrist, but I don't think I would have gotten him in the next round. Like, not love, my pitching. At least this year, I have RPs who can get saves. lol

Reminder:

162 games started limit in effect as always.

BL, can you please explain this rule to CC? It's a lot easier to explain verbally than through posts. Also, please show him how to keep track of it through the "Games Started" stat in the league standings. Thanks, bud.

I really wanted Mauer. Assuming he stays healthy, the difference between him and the next best catcher is huge. At most positions, the difference between the top 3 or so usually isn't very big.

My plan worked out better than expected. I got Mauer, and my next 3 picks were all top picks last year. I had hoped to get Santana and Wright. I didn't think Reyes would fall to round 4. I know they're all coming off injury plagued bad years, but if 2 out of 3 play to their potential, it was worth it.

For some reason the waiver priority doesn't reflect the draft order. I should be 8 but I'm 10. Everyone's is different.

Have no idea why Yahoo did that. I was the only one correctly slotted at "3". Yahoo probably anticipated this problem because it gave this hint in the "Edit Waiver Priority" link:

Helpful Hint:
You may want to use this tool to reset the waiver priority order following the draft or to resolve issues caused by transaction errors.

In any case, I changed it to the reverse order of the draft, like usual.

Rollins is a stud Fantasy SS. Morneau is good/average Fantasy 1B.

I looked at your team and didn't see any "can't miss" offensive talent. Rollins and Morneau are good at their positions, but in my opinion, they aren't studs. Your real studs are your SPs - Halladay and Greinke.

Morneau isn't a stud because 1st base is ridiculously stacked but Rollins had an off year last season. he had only one season when he was a stud and if he performs remotely close to that, you're fine.

I see you took great value in pitching and you do have the best rotation, hands down. no doubt about it. I had Zack Grinke and Verlander last year and while Greinke can only go down, Verlander is dominating at times and he's due to have a Cy Young year. I can only think I messed up by passing on him when I picked Carpenter. now your rotation is a can't miss, with too many good SP, but your offense is a little short like mine wink

BAM, since you need help offensively, I have an extra 1B if you want to replace that mediocre Morneau... How about Votto for Cain? Or maybe a Cub player... Dempster for Cain? Just trying to help out smile
