Has anyone seen the Alice In Wonderland movie with Johnny Depp yet? If so, is it too scary for my grandkids (ages 6 & almost 8). They see the previews and want to see it. I know it's rated PG 13 for some scary parts. They don't seem bothered by the previews, but I don't wanna be the grandma that scares the shit out of them. lol

You all know when it comes to sports I don't know nothin' about nothin' but do you remember that movie "They Live?" It was with Roddy Piper, who I understand was a wrestler.

Anyway, last night if you watched the tv show "Cold Case" he was starring in it playing the part of an ex-wrestler (fittingly). I saw his name in the cast and was wondering if I'd recognize him because They Live was the only time I ever saw him. I did recognize him. He looks older, and a little heavier, but I could tell it was him.

Btw, I really liked They Live. It was different. Maybe his only film, I don't know. ohwell

I liked that movie a lot. I like most of John Carpenter's films. Rowdy Roddy Piper has been in a lot of movies over the years.

I didn't overall, no; it has its moments but it's quite slight. I'm not a Tim Burton fan though.

I wrote this on another site:

It's more endurable than Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Sweeney Todd, but that's probably ONLY due to the source material being more Burton-friendly from the outset.... See more

It's a bit non-commital. Visually ugly (I didn't see it in 3D) and erratic. Sloppy really.

It's quite formulaic really; the final act becomes a very generically-rendered small-scale Lord of the Rings-style good-vs-evil finale. Very ordinary - all LOTR imitations are.

I actually think Burton thinks too highly of his own humour, both in writing and in visual gags. And I don't think he's funny; I think that's the crux of the problem with most of his recent films.

There's a crude charm about his earlier stuff, like Beetlejuice, and he seems more suited to the dark rendition of silliness like the Batman films, but his recent stuff's shit.

It's the old budget constraints cliché: with his earlier films, Burton presumably had less money to work with, and was forced by unavoidable financial factors into creative, imaginative renderings (crude, but charming). With a freer creative rein, his limitations have quickly been exposed.

There are certain things to like here, though. The brutal hypocrisies of social order that inhibit and oppress the minds and lives of children. Though I don't think Burton is any sort of brilliant visualist (how I long to see Svankmajer's version for comparison!!!), I do think the source material allows for a worthwhile endorsement of dwelling in one's creative imagination as a way of dealing with life's material pressures and cruelties - crucially, there's a refusal to bury oneself too deep here; it is after all a fable about becoming the maker of your own decisions, regardless of what arbitrary social fashions and traditions dictate to us.

Burton to his credit doesn't neglect this. But the overall taste is again one of formal fascination... nothing wrong with that, particularly, except that Burton's formally ordinary and never anything more.

Honestly, even tho I'm a Johnny Depp fan, this movie doesn't really appeal to me. ohwell However, my grandkids see the previews and it appeals to them. That's the only reason why I'd pay to go see it. They loved Charley & The Chocolate Factory too. To me, it was ok, but again nothing I'd see on my own. Maybe I'm not such a Burton fan either, I don't know. I really didn't know he did Beetlejuice, which again, was ok, but nothing special IMHO.

Thanks for the info tho Capo.

Does anyone watch the USA series "In Plain Sight"? The new season premiere is March 31st, and I'm really looking forward to it. The series is about US Marshals in Albuquerque who hide people in the witness protection program.
Click to reveal..

Last season ended with Mary being shot while protecting a witness. Her partner Marshall (who doesn't love a character named Marshal Marshall?) fell to pieces at the thought that she might die.

USA really has some terrific shows and seems to be a resting place for former West Wing stars.

One of my daughters finally got me to watch the movie Twilight. I was surprised that it was quite good. It had an heroic element to it.

On the History Channel tomorrow night they will broadcast The Real Face of Jesus. They are attempting to recreate what they think he might have looked like.

I just finished watching The Real Face of Jesus on the History Channel. You've got to watch it. They have recreated the face of the image on the Shroud of Turin. It's remarkable. If the Shroud is what it purports to be, then we can actually see what Jesus looked like. I'm defintely going to church on Sunday.

I watched it when it came back on at 1am. It was very interesting. When they showed the recreated face it freaked me out cuz the eyes opened and shut.

What are they putting in the water at those tea parties?

Just hours after LL Cool J took issue with Fox News for splicing old footage of him into a promo for a Sarah Palin-hosted special in which she profiles "real Americans," country singer Toby Keith said that the very same thing happened to him!

Keith's rep, Elaine Schock, confirmed to E! News Wednesday that the U.S.A.-championing artist has never been interviewed by Palin, yet there's a clip of him in the same commercial, right before LL Cool J comes on.

"I have no idea what interview they are using," Schock told the New York Times' Arts Beat blog.

"Toby’s talked to Fox a number of times, and I had no idea that this was going to be on Sarah Palin's special. Fox has never contacted me—not now, not when they were putting this together, not at all. I have no idea what they’re using."

She later informed the Times that the interview likely occurred in early 2009.

After ending up the target of a negative tweet, the network has since dropped the repurposed LL Cool J interview from Real American Stories, airing Thursday night.

Charlie Sheen wants out.

After seven seasons, CBS’s hit sitcom “Two and a Half Men” will be down one man after the April 9 taping, sources tell PEOPLE. The reason? “Charlie’s just done,” says a set source. “And he’s quietly telling his friends he’s not coming back.”
