What? confused

I was talking about the trade with TM and God's Offal... Chase Utley for Josh Hamilton, Rickie Weeks, John Lackey and AJ Burnett.

IMO, you gave up way too much for 1 player. You now only have 1 active CF on your roster (that you picked up on waivers today), and severely weakened your SP.

it is a risky deal for sure, but I consider Utley a top 5 player and couldn't pass on the chance to get him without giving away any remarkable player. one could argue that the top 5 players in fantasy baseball are Pujols, Han-Ram, A-Rod, Cabrera and Utley and now I have 3 of them.

Rickie Weeks and Josh Hamilton can either be the breakout stars of the season or go down with injuries tomorrow and never recover. I lean towards them providing borderline above average production and I'm much better off with Utley's carved in stone line of .299/.380/.520 with 30 HR and 100 RBI. Weeks has alrady considerably cooled off after a hot start and outfielders who can hit grow on trees. unless Hamilton does go on to live up to all of his talent I don't think I'll regret passing on him for the likes of Nate McLouth/Adam Jones or whoever falls from last of ownable CF's to the waiver wire.

as for Lackey and Burnett, I've been on the verge of dropping them for nothing before and figured I could include them in a package for a superstar. no one expressed interest in neither one of them in other trade offers and I personally don't like them very much. second tier starters always underachieve with the Yankees and Red Sox and I only drafted them in the first place in search for cheap wins. I still have 5 reasonable SP, plus 3 good ones coming up sometime soon so I really thougt I could afford to trade them away.

anyway, it's obvious that if I pulled off the deal it's because I thought I was getting the best of it. I understand that I might've made God's Offal team better too but as long as it makes me finish 1st and him 2nd, I don't care tongue

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, Yogi. As soon as you make a few roster moves ([cough]stash DL players, activate Berkman, pick up RPs[/cough]), then we'll say you're getting the hang of it. wink

just asking...do i get points taken away if zach greinke loses a game because the offence just sucks? (check his stats...kansas city either needs to trade for offence or just trade greinke to the cubs).

I've already stated many times that we should go SABR-crazy and just ignore losses in our scoring. Zack Greinke must be the perfect example why I think this way.

he had a 2.11 ERA in in his last 46 starts (!) before sunday and the Royals had a 22-24 record in those games. read this great article if you want to undertand how is that a team has a losing record when the starting gives up 2 ER every 9 innings. the only way to understand is really listing all the 26 games they lost and seeing how many defensive errors and how many bullpen collapses the Royals experience, and how few runs they score.

oh, the article came out on wednesday and as you know on sunday Greinke pitched 8 innings, allowed 4 hits and 1 ER with no walks and 6 strikeouts and the Royals lost 1-0. ugh!

The argument would be don't draft him then. If everyone did research on the offense backing up the pitcher then pitchers like Greinke might not be drafted as high. Do your research before the draft. A lesser pitcher on the Yankees could be almost as valuable because they have the potential to get "cheap" wins and make up for the few extra hits and walks they allowed.

yes but the way I see the best pitchers should be the most valuable pitchers in the fantasy game and the way I see their W-L record has little effect on evaluating who are the best pitchers.

I'm not whining or complaining. if 'batter strikeouts' was a stat worth 10 pts I would've drafted Mark Reynolds tongue

I hear you on the W-L argument, TM and have felt the same way for awhile. Perhaps next year, we can adjust the scoring on the pitching.

I do agree with BL though - since we're all under the same rules, we all drafted accordingly.

it is within baseball common sense that the starting pitcher has the task of giving his team a chance to win by pitching into the latter inning of the game while allowing less runs than the offense scores so yes, even while misleading and overrated, we should award the "W" with about 3 pts, but the loss, if the guy pitched really poorly, he will allow enough walks, hits and ER to come up with a bad score.

and yes. if "wasting a once-in-a-lifetime pitching talent" was a stat the Royals would league the league in it.

if "embarassing yourself on the field" was a stat, the Royals would lead the league too...

I was waiting the Josh Willingham pickup to go down to say this: nice job on Willingham DB!

he was my first pickup when I realized I had no positional backups and for some reason I dropped him, you picked him, and he was a top 5 LF so far - he almost cracks the season top 25 overall - of course he's due to a slump down the road but the good thing with him is that you count on the split stats and platooning him is a good idea - even though his 2010 stats are the exact opposite of his career splits; anyway I like him away vs. LHP.

and I say this because you're not likely to see him on waivers anytime soon. if I had just kept him in my LF spot instead of Raul Ibanez I'd be better off.
