SB,

I just read that Curry was gonna be on SVU and knew the name rang a bell but couldn't place it. I was gonna ask you if he was your buddy, Pennywise. tongue

I had to look up his picture because I don't know that I've seen him in anything else besides a that role.

Tim Curry WAS Pennywise, scaring the crap out of me. Loved him in "Annie" and of course "Rocky Horror".

Tim Curry made Rocky Horror. That's a classic. With Natalie wanting to watch Annie every time I babysit I'm kind of over my fascination with that movie. haha.

I remember Tim had a role in an arc of the tv show "Wiseguy" with Ken Wahl. He was pretty creepy in that too.

He was suitably creepy in that episode last night. It also guest starred Eric Close, who was on "Without A Trace", a past favorite of mine.

Tim Curry was also in "Clue" if anyone remembers that.

Without spoilers can you describe what made "IT" scary? I didn't see the movie but the clown thing didn't seem too threatening.

Are you kidding me????? panic Clowns are scary as it is! Add those pointy Pennywise teeth and that nasty scowl, and I'm a goner.

It's about the town of Derry, Maine, which is visited by an evil spirit every 15 or 20 years (said spirit embodied by said clown). Many of the townspeople seem almost unaware of the evil in their midst, except for the "Loser's Club", a group of pre-teens who fight back. They are called back to Derry years later when Pennywise returns.

I'm so glad I accidentally found my way into a Pennywise discussion! lol

Lilo, I haven't seen it in awhile, but now I'm curious to see if it'd still be spooky. I remember watching it at some times and thinking it was funny (sorry SB!), but other times it did creep me out. Whether I'm scared by movies depends on if I watch at day or night. grin

Gina, you MUST see Rocky Horror, although I don't know how much fun it would be to see it at home and sober. The best part was seeing it with a crowd, half of them dressed like characters in the film, and shouting out at the screen (I remember once seeing a book that detailed what you were supposed to yell), and everyone getting up to do the Time Warp together! It was SO fun.

Doesn't sound TOO scary but the consensus seems to be that it is so I'll have to check it out. smile

Now "The Sentinel" was scary.

I'm not quite certain when clowns became scary?? I know my kids were freaked out just by the clown in Poltergeist. They had a stuffed clown in their room and insisted I removed it. THEN of course King's IT was the icing on the cake. We all freaked out at him. eek

I remember in 1st grade I was a clown for Halloween. Not a scary clown but a regular clown. Now, I would never suggest to my grandkids to be a clown (unless they wanted to). Hmmmmm Even when we went to the circus last year, the clowns just didn't seem as funny. ohwell

My mom took me to Madison Square Garden to see the Ringling Bros. circus when I was six. I was so terrified of the clowns that I hid under my seat. My children think this phobia is hilarious. When a local shoe store put a clown statue out front, I avoided the place like the plague. My kids would laugh when we drove past it, poking each other (or a friend who happened to be with us), giggling, and saying "Mom, are you afraid of the clown?"

SB,

So, your fear of clowns has been pretty much all your life??? To me they were not always scary, but meant to be funny. Wow, you do have a phobia. eek You don't remember where exactly it stemmed from? Or is it just the painted face maybe????

I think they're hiding something behind that paint.

I'm watching "America's Got Talent" right now. This show is so bad, but so irresistible. It reminds me of the old variety shows of my youth.

I spent my childhood as a clown. How many times did my Dad tell me "You think you're so funny. You're a real clown there boy."
