First of all, he was never tried in Holloway's death. Even if it had happened in the US, double jeopardy wouldn't apply because he was arrested and then the charges were dropped.

NBC: Beth Holloway targeted in extortion scheme

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—- Law enforcement sources have confirmed to NBC that Natalie Holloway’s mother Beth Holloway was targeted by Joran van der Sloot in an alleged extortion scheme.

Thursday U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance announced extortion and wire fraud charges against van der Sloot.

Vance claimed van der Sloot sold false information about Natalie Holloway’s disappearance and circumstances surrounding her death to someone in Birmingham.

Vance said $15,000 was wired from Birmingham to the Netherlands on May 10, 2010 and that van der Sloot was ultimately seeking $250,000.....

Has anyone else run into this when surfing the net? I used Google to look up federal grants for book writing and when I clicked on my selection my virus software alerted me that it contained a malicious virus. This also happened to me a few weeks a go when I was surfing for a link about autos. I always figured that malicious software was primarily associated with adult sites.

I really feel so badly for this family and Natalie Holloway's. It's heartwrenching enough to lose your child but to never now where she/he is or what actually happened to her thus never being able to put them to rest has to be unbearable. Not to even mention finding and punishing the person responsible for her death.

I sincerely hope they find Staci and Natalie for that matter.

A Joran van der Sloot confession may close one murder case while raising more questions in another.

The Dutchman, long the prime suspect in U.S. teen Natalee Holloway's 2005 disappearance in Aruba, confessed to killing a different young woman in his Lima hotel room last week, a police spokesman says.

Police Col. Abel Gamarra, head of the Information Directorate of Police, told The Associated Press late Monday that Van der Sloot admitted under questioning by police that he killed 21-year-old Stephany Flores.

Gamarra said the case will be turned over to prosecutors who will present formal charges against Van der Sloot. The National Prison Institute will determine which prison he will be held in while awaiting trial.

According to La Republica newspaper, van der Sloot said he broke Stephany Flores' neck after she grabbed his laptop without his permission and found out that he was involved in the disappearance of an American woman.

The paper quoted van der Sloot as saying, "I did not want to do it. The girl intruded into my private life... she didn't have any right.

"I went to her and I hit her. She was scared, we argued and she tried to escape. I grabbed her by the neck and hit her."

Joran Vandersloot has confessed to killing the Peruvian girl. Evidently he felt she was intruding on his personal life by reading internet stories about him which led to an argument and him grabbing her by the neck and killing her.

Natalie Holloway's father is of course is following this story very closely. I heard yesterday that Joran was on suicide watch. I sure hope this will lead to closure in Natalie's case.
