Strange things always happen in this game. All 5 of my other starting pitchers have more FP than Johan Santana. 4 of them were waiver pickups, and they have a combined record of 31-7.

as an early argument for a change of rules next year I suggest you to read the THT Awards every tuesday morning at HardBallTimes.com

every week they give you "proof that assigning wins and losses to a pitcher is an archaic practice that must stop". every single each week there are a few pitchers who give up a lot of runs and are credited with a "Win" while a few othres pitch gems and come out with a no decision or a "Loss" - I really believe the perfect fantasy league would either ignore Wins and Losses or at least give about 3 pts for a "W" and ignore the "L". these are random, meaningless stats that do not reflect at all a pitcher's skill.

I've always thought that any team position should be eligible for a Win or Loss. If A-Rod were to hit 3 HRs to single-handedly win a game, or hit a walk-off homer to win it, why shouldn't he get the win? But that'll never happen.

It takes an entire team to get a W or L, and that's what the standings are. I agree that it's a stat that should be removed from pitching. It made more sense in the old days when pitchers could through 250 pitches in a complete game. Relief pitchers weren't as much of a factor. But the game has changed completely with pitch counts and all.

It's probably been the roughest year I've ever had in this game....

I've actually been thinking about this lately. I think I'll institute it next year. Pitchers get their punishment by giving up earned runs.

I agree for the most part. I do think that the win/loss stat has some value in a pitchers duel. The losing pitcher may pitch a gem, but if he pitches slightly worse than the other pitcher then he lost the game. More often than not though, the stat is meaningless. Especially when it comes down to wins and losses after a performance where both pitchers stink or the bullpen takes over and blows it, somehow pinning the runs on the starter.

Anyone else have this problem? Every draft I pick a player I'm excited about having on my team, but they underachieve horribly. And I keep thinking I should drop them, but I know that the second I do they will turn into a monster. Carlos Lee is that guy for me this year.

It happens to me too. This year it is Adam Lind. He was one of my best players last year and I'm afraid to drop him.

I'm getting sick of this shit... DL's up the bung-hole, underachieving stars (unless I bench them, like Lincecum (29) tonight who's historically "horrible" against Milwaukee), overachieving scrubs who stop overachieving as soon as *I* pick them up, etc.

As I said, this is probably the worst season I've had so far the past 14 years of doing this. ohwell

one that is even worse is the all-star-off-year-fluke. I had Manny Ramirez, Carlos Delgado and Jermaine Dye in their worst years and this year I gave away half a team - baseball top fan pts scorer included - for Chase Utley and the best news on him is that he'll miss only 6 weeks.

and wow what a points bonanza tonight. about every slugger hit 2 HR and a few nice pitching efforts too. the only dumb move that I caught was JG benching Lincecum lol I almost cracked 100 pts and I think we have a tie for first after tonight.

I would have traded half my roster for Lincecum at the beginning of the season. Maybe you'd be in first if you would have. But now... well I guess I'll offer you Carlos Lee for him. tongue

At the all star break it seems like a closer race than in years past. I'm in fifth but happy I'm only 110 pts from first.
