UPDATE: The USC football team has been stripped of its 2004 national championship victory and must vacate its entire 2005 season, according to ESPN's Bruce Feldman. Describing the NCAA sanctions, a school official said "we got killed" earlier in the day. EARLIER: USC's football program has been banned from postseason play for two years and will lose more than 20 scholarships, the Los Angeles Times reports. ESPN's Bruce Feldman first tweeted about the sanctions Wednesday night. USC Sanctions

Women are tackling football in increasing numbers Sunday, June 27, 2010 By Michael Sanserino, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Football has been pivotal to Pittsburgh's identity. Now the city has become a key player in the growth of football -- among women. Two Western Pennsylvanians are playing for the U.S. national women's tackle football team in the inaugural Women's World Championship, which will begin today in Stockholm, Sweden. And Pittsburgh is one of several cities the National Football League has selected to sponsor teams in its Girls Flag Football Leadership Program, which attempts to build intramural teams at the middle school and high school levels. It is the most recent validation for a sport that has been building women's participation for the past decade. Today, there are hundreds of professional women's tackle football leagues throughout the country, and the NFL estimates 19,000 middle school and high school girls play flag football on organized teams. Pittsburgh is home to two women's tackle teams, the Pittsburgh Passion and the Pittsburgh Force. Read more: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10178/1068626-53.stm#ixzz0s67Gw6Ks

Deadspin editor-in-chief A.J. Daulerio knew his post about legendary NFL quarterback Brett Favre sending X-rated crotch shots to a sexy TV sports personality would get a lot of hits - but he says he's surprised by the number of critics who say the outrageous sports website crossed an ethical line. Daulerio reported Wednesday that model, actress and TV host Jenn Sterger told him that Favre had sent her inappropriate and explicit pictures of his himself, but it is not clear that Sterger gave her full consent for Deadspin to use what had previously been an off-the-record account. "What irks me a little bit is when people put us in the same category as The New York Times or you guys," Daulerio said, referring to the Daily News. "We've run rumors and innuendo from the get-go. That's what we do." The controversy dates back to just before the Super Bowl, when Sterger, currently a reporter on Versus' "The Daily Line," told Daulerio that Favre had sent her flirty voicemails and naughty pictures in 2008, when she was working for the Jets as a sideline reporter and Favre was Gang Green's quarterback. Daulerio said Sterger, 26, told him that she had received several friendly but strange voicemail messages early in the 2008 season. "But then, one night, Sterger received a picture on her phone which was so shocking that she just tossed it across the room. It was... Jenn Sterger Claim

Hilarious video from a recent Astros game: http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=10798761The lady reporter can be really annoying - she does these kind of interviews right in the middle of game play and asks players questions like, " How fun was that for you?" after a win... But I got a good laugh out of this dude, "Bo the Bailer."

gina, some of that tape you linked to was shown on the local area sports reports, so I had seen it before. It reminded me of when a few of us from the boards went to Wrigley Field back in September, 2004. A friend of mine and I had (great) seats between the plate and first base, and when we first sat down my friend was worried that she'd get hit by a foul ball. I told her not to worry ~ that I'd protect her. Well, sure enough in the 8th inning a foul popup was headed right at us... I stood up, never taking my eyes off the ball, and threw my hands skyward only to feel the ball plop right into my hands. I sat down, proudly showing my friend the ball, when she freaked out.... my hand, was covered with blood which was now quickly pouring onto my pants. It seems that a guy sitting behind us reached for the ball at the same time that I did but this yahoo tried grabbing it with his plastic cup (which broke and cut up my hand).
It was some sign from God that the ONLY first aid station in all of Wrigley Frield was no more than 100 feet away from where we were sitting. A quick stay there and then on to the hospital for stitches.
The GBB members at the game? (they were sitting in the bleachers).... they called me on my cellphone to find out if I kept the ball.

I've been to Fenway before, but never when the game really meant anything. I think this one might have playoff ramifactions, so I'm excited. I wish I could share your excitement for post season possibilities but I can't see the BoSox making it this year. Anyway, being in Fenway in September is always exciting and Boston is a GREAT college town so I hope your daughter has fun and does well.

Easy, Pizzaboy! Those are MY White Sox you jest about! I was being serious! I'm really looking forward to the game. If nothing else, Ozzie Guillen is always good for a few pearls of wisdom. Maybe he'll get drunk and challenge all the Boston Irish to a rasslin match .
