I don't watch AGT, but I've seen pieces of it, most recently a week or two ago, so I remember the Top 4 acts. I also just watched them on the site.
The Top 4 were all amazing, and Michael Grimm was a forerunner of mine and should've been on American Idol instead. Jackie Evancho is incredible (but too young). But for a Vegas show I thought Prince Poppycock or Fighting Gravity would have been more appropriate (and therefore ultimately more successful as a Vegas act). But good for Grimm, and Evancho will be just fine with more experience (tho I thought she sounded better than Sarah Brightman lol).

A filmmaker is suing his ex-wife for allegedly duping him into believing for 17 years that a child was his daughter. Andrew Douglas, who directed the 2005 remake of The Amityville Horror, is demanding back hundreds of thousands of pounds in child support.
He says Ameena Meer asked him to marry her after claiming she was having his baby. But the real father, according to the lawsuit, was another Briton she had been cheating on him with. Mr Douglas, who began his career in Lord Snowdon’s photographic studio, says in the lawsuit that he met Miss Meer in London in 1989.
She had commissioned him to take photographs of Salman Rushdie for a magazine interview she had organised with the writer.
Over the next three years the couple ‘had infrequent sexual relations’ when they met up in London, according to papers filed at Manhattan Supreme Court. Once pregnant, Miss Meer said she didn’t want a baby born out of wedlock because ‘it would cause great shame and disgrace to her parents, who were practising Muslims’.
The writer moved to London and married Mr Douglas in August 1992. But the couple split months after Sasha Douglas was born and Miss Meer took their daughter back to her New York home. In the court documents, Mr Douglas says he had little contact with Sasha until her tenth birthday and felt depressed about failing as a father.
Miss Meer, who has had two more daughters with her second husband, allegedly told the director that ‘a price tag was attached’ if he wanted to play any part in the girl’s life.
He said he paid nearly £450,000 in child support and tuition fees, gave Miss Meer £17,000 when she fell behind with her rent and handed out a further £6,500 for a new bathroom.
Mr Douglas’s relationship with Sasha is said to have improved after he moved to California but he said he became suspicious last summer when she asked him about his blood type...Paternity Lawsuit Article

Two different views on the film subsidy program in Michigan. Movie Incentives in Michigan Across the street from a landscape of vacant houses and overgrown front yards, homicide detectives gather to investigate a murder. They analyze clues and debate how best to interrogate the key witnesses. Then, the director yells "Cut!" and everyone heads to a catered lunch of shrimp scampi and beef tenderloin.
The set of the gritty cop show "Detroit 1-8-7" is one of more than 100 film and television productions that have flocked to Michigan in the last two years, the result of generous tax rebates. Producers have spent nearly $350 million in the state so far, a figure expected to reach $650 million by year's end, up from $2 million in 2007, according to the Michigan Film Office. About 80% of these shoots take place in and around this iconic but much-maligned city, sprinkling a little stardust, optimism and controversy along the way.
Workers who used to build cars are learning to build sets. The entertainment sector is "a lifeboat as the auto industry adapts and restructures," says Wayne County Executive Robert A. Ficano.
Signs of activity are everywhere. Hip-looking film-school grads on bicycles run errands in an empty warehouse that once served as a Chrysler distribution center and is now a cavernous 166,000-square-foot production studio for "Detroit 1-8-7." Sets for the show, premiering on ABC Sept. 21, include a city morgue and a homicide unit with cluttered police desks and corkboards covered with mug shots.
The dilapidated Michigan Central Station, once a transportation hub, with marbled floors and Corinthian columns, has served as a symbol of urban ruination for years. It's now a key location for productions including "Transformers 3" and HBO's "Hung." On Tuesday "Hostel: Part III" and "Vamps," a horror-comedy with Sigourney Weaver, both shot in the city's neo-Gothic Masonic Temple. When "Harold and Kumar 3" finished a scene this summer that required turning a downtown street into New York City at Christmas, set designers left the fake subway entrance intact, knowing another production would soon need it.************************************************************** Michigan’s film subsidies may be enhancing the state’s image and producing pockets of new economic activity, but they’re unquestionably a net loser for state taxpayers, according to a report by the Senate Fiscal Agency released this morning.
The state Treasury doled out $37.5 million in subsidies in 2009 and is expected to distribute about $100 million to the makers of TV and film productions in 2010. But the estimated additional state tax revenue generated by film-related economic activity comes to only $3.7 million in 2009 and $10.3 million in 2010, the report found.
An analysis of movie and TV job creation by the agency found that the average cost to the state per full time job in 2008 was $186,519, and $193,333 in 2009.
Senate Fiscal Agency Director Gary Olson said the new report, the most comprehensive examination of the credits to date, said the subsidies are so generous (up to 42% of production costs) that it is virtually impossible for the program to have a net positive effect on the state budget.
“That’s not to say there aren’t positive effects,” Olson said. Obviously, there are benefits to those who gain film and TV employment, he said. And the report doesn’t account for increased property and income tax revenue to local governments, he said.
But the cost of providing the subsidies falls entirely on the state, Olson said.
“It’s very hard to see how it ever benefits the state’s bottom line,” he said. Film Subsidies cost taxpayers

On Katy Perry's new No. 1 album "Teenage Dream," she sings about adolescent milestones like beach parties and Friday-night dates, and earlier this week she lived out many teens' real-life fantasy: standing in front of a huge, adoring crowd and calling out a crush who never gave her the time of day in high school.
On Tuesday, the 25-year-old pop star returned to her alma mater, Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta, California (which she attended her freshman year before earning her GED) for a homecoming concert. With an acoustic guitar strapped around her neck, Perry started talking about the difference between teen boys and girls, and unrequited love. "It's like, don't break my heart, because I'm going to go and write a song about you," she said. "I'm so thankful that God gave me that gift."
Pointing out into the audience, she identified one specific member of the crowd and asked, "Is that Shane Lopes? You were the most popular kid in my class, but you never wanted to date me, it was always Amanda Wayne." As the crowd laughed and cheered, she adopted a bit of swagger and added, "Oh yeah, you really chose right, honey. What's up now, playa?" Becoming an international, Grammy-nominated pop star evidently does wonderful things for your self-confidence. Video

Good for her, Lilo. On a related note, I'm a full generation removed from her music, and her hit "Califonia Gurls" does sound like so much "bubble gum." But the video absolutely cracks me up, because you know that Snoop is tappin that ass . Sorry, Russell Brand .

Yeah, that's the one, Tis. I only know it because I'm blessed/cursed with having 18 and 22 year old daughters . Try "blessed/cursed" with 5 daughters. I'm just now realizing again that I am entitled to a life.

Geez, part one of the story sounds so good until part two tears it down. I am not good at figuring all these numbers out, but I still can't believe it's not a "plus" to film there. At least it IS something right? TIS The really ironic thing is that many of the most vociferous defenders of the tax subsidies for movie production (i.e. Mitch Albom) tend to be people who would otherwise be skeptical or hostile to the idea that marginal tax changes make huge differences and some of the people that are most opposed to the tax subsidy program are people who usually never met a business tax break/subsidy they didn't like. I think it's still a little early to tell if the program has been successful or not. The cold numbers say no but there are also studios and post production work opportunities opening up locally. The rubber will meet the road when the tax breaks are reduced and we see if the studios still find other reasons to work in Michigan or if they pack up and head elsewhere. Other businesses say with some justification "why not give everyone a tax break" while some politicians say in current environment the state simply can't afford to be cutting services for Michiganders while writing checks to Hollywood... Hopefully though it does put Michigan on the map and change the national perception of the state. Time will tell.

I saw McGillis not too long ago in a tv movie and thought she looked so much older. I knew nothing of her personal life, let alone that she is gay. Back to the Detroit 1-8-7 tv show. I see them advertise it's premiere and are playing "Ball of Confusion" in the background. It would be a great theme song. I hope they keep it. AND, I hope it's not opposite any of my favorite shows. I almost ejected 9 (2009) when I realized it was animated (CGI), but I decided to give it a chance. The CGI quality dragged me in, and kept me in. The attention to detail was awesome! The story itself wasn't anything new/special, but it's worth a Netflix rental....

Katy Perry can't seem to keep her parts private. Days after her fiance, Russell Brand, was arrested for attacking a photographer who aimed a camera up her dress, Perry's "Sesame Street" promo video has been yanked for being too racy. After several complaints, the show's producers have opted not to air the segment that features the 24-year-old singer singing a duet with Elmo while dressed in a low-cut yellow-green heart-shaped dress, a sheer piece of material covering her ample cleavage. Duet with Elmo cancelled-article & video

So, does anyone watch Dexter? I recently found out it was about a serial killer? I never saw the show, but I always thought it was a comedy. I heard a while back that they were selling Dexter dolls and that's how I found out what it was about. They were suggesting it wasn't appropriate to sell dolls of a serial killer. Boy, ya think?? Anyway, today I heard a preview of the show on the radio with Dexter obviously calling 911 saying, "I just came home and found my wife dead." Sounds creepy, but intriguing. Does anyone watch it? Is it good? And what season is it in? TIS
