I don't know the California standard of living but in Michigan $23/hr is not cheap. We'll see how it all plays out...
Very coincidentally, one of the local NYC tv stations did a story on the City's subway car cleaners. These men and women are responsible for cleaning the subway cars when the train pulls into a terminal station (and then turns around and goes the other way). They are supposed to sweep and mop, if necessary, the floors and pick up discarded newspapers.
The fact that more than half were filmed slacking off (sitting in the subway cars and reading newspapers) notwithstanding, thanks to a union they are paid $23/hour.
Is it any wonder that the state and city are in such horrible shape?
