"On January 11, 2010 Jerry Capeci quoted sources as saying that Nicholas Santora and Anthony Rabito, who were both released from prison in 2009 and are still unable to meet freely with their fellow wiseguys, are supporting capo Vincent Asaro to become the new boss of the family. Asaro also has close ties to Queens-based mobsters from the Lucchese, Gambino and Genovese families who have voiced their support for him, sources say. A key player in the recent talks is Vito Grimaldi. Grimaldi, whose family has operated a bakery in Flushing, Queens for 100 years, is viewed as an adviser to the Zips (Sicilian mobsters in the United States). Capeci's sources say Asaro, who for many years has had dealings as both a mob supervisor and cohort of Sicilian wiseguys, may win Grimaldi's support. Another major player with key Sicilian backing is Vincent Badalamenti, whose Christmas Party was raided by DEA agents on Christmas Day 2009. Who will ultimately lead the Bonannos is still up in the air, but both sides seem to agree that they won't be taking orders from the last wiseguy that Massino anointed as acting boss Vincent Basciano. "Joe's word don't count any more," said one source, adding that even if his words still had clout, it made no sense. Basciano has already been convicted of racketeering, and faces another trial for additional racketeering and murder charges." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jerry-capeci/mob-murder-in-montreal-co_b_417688.html

Here's just an excerpt from the entire article, dealing with the topic at hand. It's not even 1/3 of the entire thing so hopefully the powers that be here won't mind. It's Showtime For Vinny TV
In the wake of Massino’s conviction – and his decision to become the first New York Mafia boss to defect – there have been numerous acting leaders, or “street bosses” who are said to have been entrusted with the difficult task of resuscitating the beleaguered and embattled Bonannos.
The latest, by most accounts, is Vincent (Vinny TV) Badalamenti, a 53-year-old Brooklyn-based capo whose active Bensonhurst social club has been the scene of one tragic death, and quite a bit of angst, over the last year or so.
You first read about Badalamenti here last year when guest Gang Land columnist Tom Robbins disclosed that Vinny TV, the former proprietor of an electronics store, had taken over the Banner Social Club where an aging caretaker died of a heart attack during a joint NYPD-FBI raid in April, 2009.
Sources say Badalamenti, whose mob resume includes a 13-month bit for a federal lonsharking rap in 2003 and 90 days home confinement for hanging around with wiseguys too soon after he completed his prison term, is running all things Bonanno with the help of two aging Queens mobsters, Nicholas (Nicky Mouth) Santora, and Anthony Rabito.
But Santora, 68, and Rabito, 76, were both released from short federal prison stays last year and they’re not likely to show up near the Banner Social Club anytime soon for fear of going back to prison, As a result, sources say, as far as the Bonannos are concerned, it’s pretty much the Vinny TV show these days.
Last December, Badalamenti and two cohorts, capo Anthony Calabrese and associate James Malpeso, were detained for several hours – and then released with no charges lodged – when DEA agents raided a Christmas party at the club on the mistaken belief that a mob induction ceremony for Malpeso was about to take place.
A year earlier, months before Badalamenti’s increased mob stature was noted here, he was dissed by Genovese capo Anthony (Tico) Antico, who had been told by a deadbeat fruit vendor that he would first see Vinny TV about his debt, according to court papers filed in Brooklyn.
Antico replied that he didn’t care who the produce man had to see, he wanted his money: “Tell ‘em he can bring Vinny TVs, he can bring Vinny Magnavox, everybody.”

Thanks for the post "Attorney General Eric Holder has made it perfectly clear - he wants former Bonnano crime boss Vincent (Vinny Gorgeous) Basciano executed. Federal Judge Nicholas Garaufis had asked the Justice Department's top official to "review and reconsider" whether to seek the death penalty against the gangster, who ordered the murder of mob associate Randolph Pizzolo. But Holder ordered federal prosecutors to proceed full steam ahead for death by lethal injection. The defense filed notice yesterday that they will request Garaufis' recusal from the trial so they can make his request to Holder part of their argument against the death penalty to the jury. They have already failed to knock Garaufis off the case on the grounds that prosecutors claim Basciano included the judge's name on a hit list passed to another inmate. Basicano already had been convicted of another racketeering murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole." http://fivefamiliesnyc.blogspot.com/http://www.nydailynews.com/news/ny_crime...l#ixzz11EC71Xyj

An absolute exercise in futility and a COMPLETE waste of time and money. Exactly one gangster in history has been executed (Lepke Buchalter), and that was over 60 years ago. This guy is gonna die in jail, anyway, and the prosecutor, in his heart, has to know he won't get him the death penalty, so why waste the Government's time and money? It's not like we're in the middle of a recession or anything .
