It seems that Tommy and his brother are both out of the life. Good for them. I always got the feeling that they were pushed into it. He looks good for his age. He's gotta be 80 by now.

I like Tommy's tie. Very nice!

Tommy Gambino could very well play his father in a movie about his life. smile

From what I understand, they've been out of it for some time now. Tommy has been retired and living in California for over a decade now, if I'm not mistaken. And I believe he's about 80 or 81.

retired bullshit, they pocketed illegal money and made a good living from it and then retired. once a wiseguy, always a wiseguy. Even if you cooperate with the feds you still are what you are, look at sammy gravano and vinny palermo.

I don't think it's easy not being a wiseguy if you're father is the top boss.

It doesn't mean a guy like Tommy ceases to be a made member of the mob. You remain so until you die or flip. But he's been out of the action for years now. After he and his brother made a deal with the feds to get out of the garment center trucking businesses in the early 1990's, he was last involved in a gambling and loansharking case in Connecticut a few years later. Not long after that, he retired to California with his millions.

Tommy was known to complain that he was compelled to go into the life because of his family. But I don't have too much sympathy for him. He's done very little prison time, by mob standards, and he's one of the richest mobsters in the country. And his fortune came from who is father and father-in-law were. He was basically given it all on a silver platter. Maybe he would have been a successful businessmen anyway, without being in the mob, but probably not worth his reported $75-100 million.

I dont have alot of sympathy for Tommy either.
He made a lot of money without ever having to get his hands dirty the way Gotti or DeMeo did.
He was Carlo's son and Castellano's nephew so NO one would have ever fucked with him.
Life could have dealt him a much worse hand.....

Why should he have to make his hands dirty to make money?

After his father had died an later his cousin Castellano was killed everyone could have fucked with him. But he was supposedly a nice guy..

Why should he have to make his hands dirty to make money?

What I meant by that was that he wanst expected to go out and frighten or whack guys the way Gotti/DeMeo were.
Tommy Made his money comfortably and with a low risk of getting arrested (by mob standards)

But he was supposedly a nice guy..

He could afford to be.
He wasnt required to scare people the way guys like Gotti/DeMeo/Gravano were.

He has the most beady eyes I have ever seen.

Imagine a staring match between a Gambino and a Galante.

I know who I'd have my money on. tongue

How did Tommy get on in prison during the late 90's? He was terrified of the can, wasn't he? Did he ask if he could bring his butler, Jeeves, with him?

Tommy Gambino was a model prisoner during his time in prison, so I think he served his time a bit comfortable inside. He has not been into anything illegal since he has been out and living in California.

I read that Tommy was terrified of going to prison in the first place.

I think he wouldn't have been in that life if it wasn't for his father, the guy was college educated and refined, not a gruff street guy, he wouldn't have gotten the respect if he was a no name.

Also did Carlo push him into marrying Tommy Lucchese's daughter, it was a great move at the time for the Gambinos as it got them access to JFK airport.

That's bullshit. He certainly wasn't a street guy, but he had nothing to fear in prison.

Of course not.

The airport was open territory and already shared at that point. Although I'm sure it pleased BOTH Tommy Lucchese and Carlo Gambino for obvious reasons.
