How amazing that we can see inside the mine as it is happening.

It's funny... the more we change the more we remain the same.

This type of human interest story used to be big on radioo during the Great Depression.... little kids trapped in wells, miners in cave-ins, etc. The networks would send a radio reporter who would broadcast live from the site. The radio audience often went nationwide until the story ended (when those trapped were freed or found dead).

Here we are, some seventy years later and we are still following the same dramas (albeit with much greater technology).

On a much larger scale, remember the feeling of seeing Neil Armstrong's first step on the moon as it happened???? I think everyone was watching.

Ok, regarding the miners. I've heard rumors of this but today on the radio they said that one of the miners named, Yanni(they gave first and last names which I don't remember, but I think it's on the level) wanted to be last out but for personal reasons. It seems that while his wife has been waiting outside the mine area for his capture, she ran into his mistress who asked who she was waiting for, the woman said she was waiting for "Yanni" and the wife said she too was waiting for "Yanni." According to the story there is a rumor of yet another woman.
Poor Yanni, might wanna stay where he is. It might be safer

So, if you see they are releasing someone named Yanni, check out the reaction. LOL

I was driving into the office this morning, and on this talk show on the radio, a caller asked if the trapped miners get paid overtime for their stay?

Next guy calls in and said if it was like his company, they would pay you the overtime then the company would charge you for the rescue!

and the host said, yeah and you would still owe the goverment the taxes owed on it and be in hole at the end of the year!

I watched a video and the repoter said that he invited his wife and his mistress to watch his rescue. The reporter said that his wife isn't coming. I'm glad he is being rescued and all but the man is a ass.

SC, I'm sure you've seen "Radio Days". Woody Allen put in a wonderful scene about the family listening to a broadcast about a little girl trapped in a well. It was a fictionalized version of an actual event in 1949.

I rec'd a little promotion today at work and it was announced in a staff meeting. My supervisor, a fellow "Sopranos" enthusiast, appreciated my joke when I said that I wanted to look out the window during the announcement. That way I could be on the lookout for any ravens sitting outside the window sill like Christopher experienced.

Their candidate has accepted an invitation to the gubernatorial debate. Can you imagine what that's going to be like? And then we throw that crazy Paladino into the mix, and who knows where this will end up.

Nearly 20 years after sexual harassment allegations almost derailed Clarence Thomas's Supreme Court nomination, the justice's wife telephoned Anita Hill, his principal accuser, to seek an apology.

"I did place a call to Ms. Hill at her office extending an olive branch to her after all these years, in hopes that we could ultimately get past what happened so long ago," Virginia Thomas said through a spokesman. Mrs. Thomas, a longtime conservative activist, has lately taken a more visible role by founding a tea-party group called Liberty Central.

Ms. Hill, now a professor at Brandeis University, said she didn't take Mrs. Thomas's Oct. 9 voicemail as conciliatory.

"I certainly thought the call was inappropriate," Ms. Hill said through a Brandeis spokesman. "I have no intention of apologizing because I testified truthfully about my experience and I stand by that testimony."

Ms. Hill said she initially assumed the call, which a Brandeis spokesman said came in at 7:30 a.m. on a Saturday, was a prank. She notified campus security, Brandeis spokesman Charles Radin said, which in a routine procedure alerted the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Representatives of Brandeis said they were unaware of any other contact between Mrs. Thomas and Ms. Hill since the aftermath of the confirmation hearings in 1991.

"Good morning, Anita Hill, it's Ginni Thomas," the message went. "I just wanted to reach across the airwaves and the years and ask you to consider something. I would love you to consider an apology sometime and some full explanation of why you did what you did with my husband. So give it some thought and certainly pray about this and come to understand why you did what you did. Okay have a good day."
