Doctor house calls. OMG, I remember a couple times as a kid, myself or my siblings, feeling under the weather, the doctor would come by the house. Geez, and after hours no less. Can't even imagine that today. They'd tell you to go to the emergency room. TIS

...I remember the Fuller Brush guy.
We had a regular milkman...
...Remember.... Avon calling??? I still have a Fuller Brush broom and brush/dustpan from the 1950's. They work fine, so I kept them after my parents retired to Florida in the 1980's. The broom has black bristles and the rest of it is painted pink! Back in the early '60s, when we moved to Brooklyn there was a daily milk delivery in our apartment building. We had the usual metal box - actually nearly everybody in the building had one. Avon is still alive and well; at least here in Tessio territory. As a matter of fact, Signora V. was an Avon lady for a couple of years in the early '90s. I think she was her own best customer! I still have boxes of beautiful Christmas decorations, earrings, pins, etc. that she accumulated with the help of the "employee discounts" (the downfall of many an Avon lady, I imagine!). Signor V.

"No. Saints and poets, maybe... they do some."

We get the Schwann's guy every Wednesday. Tasty stuff but very pricey. What the heck's a Schwann? Sounds like a dirty word. Seriously, some kind of food I persume? TIS

We used to have our milk delivered. I loved the clink of the glass bottles. No milk has ever tasted that good. We did have the Fuller Brush man, but no soda man. My aunt and grandmother had a soda man, but I guess our building didn't have one. That soda was the best cream and root beer EVER. DC, your story about buying stuff on time cracked me up. My aunt and uncle were famous in the family for always being in debt (my grandfather used to say that they never had the 99 cents to make a dollar). When my brother was confirmed, my uncle was his godfather, and he gave him the traditional gift of a watch. When my brother put it on, he wanted to know if the watch had been set, so he asked my uncle if it was on time. My uncle smacked him on the back of the head and said, "Hey, I paid cash for that watch!"

Miniskirt Minnie Italian town bans miniskirt What a treat! Yet again, an elected official in a small town has decided to ban miniskirts, low-slung jeans and excess cleavage being displayed in his territory. And yet again, the usual suspects have risen to the bait, denouncing the offender for male chauvinism and other crimes against women. ... But men in Fleet Street or Italy who send other men out to censor women's dress code ā "they won't need to carry out checks close up" ā are both asking for trouble and taking a small, incompetent step back towards the Taliban-esque habits of mind and action that western society has shed only recently and with difficulty. Luigi Bobbio was elected as mayor of Castellammari di Stabia (it's south of Naples) on Silvio Berlusconi's People of Freedom ticket.
"When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives." Winter is Coming
Now this is the Law of the Jungleāas old and as true as the sky; And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die. As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk, the Law runneth forward and back; For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.

I thought I'd pre-order it. I saw that it costs $550.00. I thought better of it. You can get the Heritage Edition for only $4000
I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! lol Whaddaya want me to do? Whack a guy? Off a guy? Whack off a guy? --Peter Griffin My DVDs | Facebook | Godfather Filming Locations

I had jury duty two weeks ago. I actually don't mind serving. I find it very interesting. Turns out though, they let us all leave. So I'm good for at least another year before they can call again. TIS
