Unbelievably there are some things in New Jersey that are actually....better? We do live a sophisticated life. No stinkin' gas smell on my hands!

I don't mind pumping my own gas when travelling, but it sure is nice not to worry about it when it's raining or snowing -- or 90 degrees out!

But it covers the stink of the rest of the state.

Fresh whipped cream only. I whipped a quart of cream on Thanksgiving - some to ice my MIL's birthday cake and some for the pumpkin pie.

I don't have a recipe for freshed whipped. I'm sorry.

You take heavy cream. You whip it until it's fluffy. You add a little sugar to taste.

BOSTON — The wife of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas said on Friday that a recent telephone call to Anita Hill, the woman at the center of a 1991 furor at Thomas' confirmation hearing, was probably a mistake.

In October, Virginia Thomas, a conservative activist, left an unexpected voicemail suggesting Hill consider apologizing "for what you did with my husband" at the hearing 19 years earlier. The message was left on her office answering machine.

The message "was probably a mistake on my part," Thomas said in an interview with The Daily Caller, a political website. She added that the incident was "a private matter."

I have been spending a lot of time at my wifes grave lately. Its okay though because she thinks i am digging a pond........

Pearl Harbor Veterans

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (AP) — Aging Pearl Harbor survivors on Tuesday heard reassurances their sacrifice would be remembered and passed on to future generations as they gathered to mark the 69th anniversary of the attack.

"Long after the last veteran of the war in the Pacific is gone, we will still be here telling their story and honoring their dedication and sacrifice," National Park Service Director Jonathan Jarvis told about 120 survivors who traveled to Hawaii from around the country for the event.

Merl Resler, 88, of Newcastle, Calif., was among those who returned. He remembered firing shots at Japanese planes from the USS Maryland and standing in the blood of a shipmate hit by shrapnel during the attack.

"My teeth was chattering like I was freezing to death, and it was 84 degrees temperature. It was awful frightful," said Resler.

On Tuesday, fighter jets from the Montana Air National Guard flew above Pearl Harbor in missing man formation to honor those killed in the attack, which sunk the USS Arizona and with it, nearly 1,000 sailors and Marines. In all, about 2,400 service members died....

Lilo, it's something we should never forget. Unfortunately, I think the present generation is forgetting or has forgot. What concept do today's kids have about sacrifice and fighting for and defending freedom?

By the way, have you ever watched In Harm's Way with John Wayne? Quite a movie in B&W about the attack and its aftermath.

No I never saw that film. The film I associated most with that event was Tora, Tora, Tora. I will put the movie you mention on the list.

Sadly, I think Oli is right. As time goes by and we lose all those who lived during that time, it seems we lose the importance of this event.

People who lived during that time remember exactly
where they were on Dec. 7, 1941. I heard many times my parents tell me they were coming out of a movie theater when the news broke. At that time newspapers (extra editions I think) were sold on the street corner. The shock of the event as they told the story, was obvious in their voices. My father served during that time period.

Although I can't say I'm necessarily a fan of her singing, I am so sorry to hear that Aretha Franklin has been diagnosed with incurable pancreatic cancer. This is the same cancer that took Patrick Swayze and Michael Landon). I hear this is one of the most painful cancers.

In another article I read that there is only a 10 - 15 percent survival rate, but with a person of Franklin's age and weight, the odds are even less. Hey, but you never know. I wish her the best.

Aretha Franklin

Really?? Wow. I had heard that she was sick and had canceled some concert appearances, but I didn't realize she was THAT sick. Such a shame. What an amazing talent!

I haven't really seen her since the inauguration, but she's always been one of my favorites. I remember my brother bringing home James Brown and Aretha Franklin records and introducing me to the Godfather and Queen of Soul.

And of course, there is her great scene in "The Blues Brothers".

i knew it was bad when she cancelled her concerts, and hid her diagnoses. i wish this type of cancer can be dealt with sooner weather than later.
