Thanks Vinny, like you.. I really love the Bonannos I got it from a forum i think, or someone has send me the pics. NJboy55 on this forum helped me out with some pictures. Of all the other families, I've always found The Bonanno family to be the most interesting one. There's something about that old Sicilian way of thinking, that for a long time seemed to set them apart from the other families. Joe Bonanno built his organization around these old values and I believe that fact is one of the main reasons they didn't have a single defector for seventy years. Not to glorify anything, but it really wasn't until Massino, when greed seemed to become the sole motivator. Richard Cantarella got promoted to underboss because of money. Frank Coppa became Joe's favorite capo because of money. As smart as Massino was, he really didn't understand the old Sicilian way of doing things.

What's seperates the Bonanno's from the other families is ofcourse that they were originally a very tight-knit organization with close ties to Sicily.
But it's even more because of Joe Bonanno's business acumen. It where the Bonanno's who largerly engineered the heroin connection and it where they who created the power structure in Montreal by making allegiances with the local mafiosi over there and creating a separate faction. I really think this was (at least from a gangster's point of view) an ingenius move. They really opened Montreal up to the New York families.
I can't deny that Bonanno is for me one of the more intriguing mobsters. He is however a controversial figure. But I think we can all agree that he was a very capable leader of men, although he was slipping at the end.
I'm not that well informed about their current status. I think they lost a lot of their influence of the years. But back in the days they were (at least for me) one of the more interesting families. Ever wonder what would've happened if Bonanno had succeeded in wiping out Gambino and Lucchese? That would've been an interesting outcome. He gambled and lost.

Probably best to wait to see who takes the leadership charts after all is set and done with the recent bust. if we'll know who takes the leadership......

Wikipedia is not a good source overall, but you have to remember hes in prison and wont be out for a long time. So he cant be a boss or acting boss whatsoever. Yep. You can usually wipe your ass with what people put up on Wikipedia regarding organized crime. For the longest time there were people on the internet of the belief that Nick Corozzo was the real boss in the family. He was supposedly going to be back in the late 1990's after Gotti had been convinced to step down but he was indicted before that happened. After recently speaking to two separate sources it appears that Capo Bobby DeLuca, who campaigned very aggressively for the position of underboss, is declining the spot in Rhode Island. It appears there is too much heat in the state and he doesn’t want to deal with it. It looks like the position is going to fall to Eddie Lato, a tough old school standup wiseguy who is very low key, much like the now retired Baby Shacks Manocchio.
Do you have a direct link to either source? I see the New England Organized Crime Blog but nothing about DeLuca deciding to not take the underboss spot, which he reportedly already did months ago.

Confirm What Fox Undercover Reported Two Years Ago Updated: Thursday, 24 Feb 2011, 10:21 PM EST Published : Thursday, 24 Feb 2011, 7:58 PM EST
(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - For the first time ever, the federal government is naming who officials believe is running the New England Mafia, and as Fox Undercover earlier reported that leadership team is in Massachusetts.
The revelation came out in court documents as the former boss of the New England mob, Luigi "Baby Shanks" Manocchio pleaded not guilty to extortion and conspiracy charges in Rhode Island.
Federal prosecutors in Rhode Island filed paperwork to keep Manocchio locked up while he waits to go on trial. Part of their argument is that Manocchio is still active in the New England mob.
In court documents, US Attorney Peter Neronha cited this example:
"In June, 2010, (Manocchio) was observed by law enforcement having an extended meeting with then acting (New England Mafia) boss Peter Limone and underboss Anthony DiNunzio at a Chinese restaurant in Boston."
"His access to high ranking (New England Mafia) figures demonstrates his continued power and respect within the organization..."
DiNunzio is the brother of reputed Mafia leader Carmen “The Cheeseman” DiNunzio, who is currently serving a federal sentence.
Limone pleaded no contest last July to running an organized crime gambling ring, but avoided going to jail.
Earlier this month, Massachusetts State Police organized crime investigator Lt. Steve Johnson told Fox Undercover Limone remains active in the Mafia.
“Do you think Mr. Limone belongs in prison?” asked Fox Undercover’s Mike Beaudet. “Yah,” replied Lt. Johnson.
“Fair to say he was a significant player?” asked Beaudet.
“Fair to say he is a significant player,” said Johnson.
Limone's attorney did not return phone calls, but earlier this month she denied her client is the boss of the New England mob.
Manocchio remains locked up. He'll be back in court again next week when a judge will decide if he'll be released.

Conngrats Muk - having a daughter is great. When we had my daughter, my wife quoted Chris Rock - our job is to keep her off the pole.
Best way to catch the smart ones? Get an idiot working for them.
