I ran the poll on my blog fivefamiliesnyc.blogspot.com and had a total of 350 people vote in the poll, check out the results:
Vincent Basciano - Bonannos: 120 (34%)
Thomas Gioeli - Colombos: 20 (5%)
Joel Cacace - Colombos: 36 (10%)
None - The Feds are bluffing: 174 (49%)
350 total loyal readers voted and 174 of them believe that the Federal Government will not give the death penalty to any of the mobsters it is currently trying to. They believe they are using this for leverage to possibly get these guys to cooperate, as a deterrent against other members of organized crime, or as an example of not to pursue crimes against police officers/judges. 120 people believe that Vincent "Vinny Gorgeous" Basciano, the former Acting Boss of the Bonanno Crime Family will get the death penalty for his crimes. We shall find out the answer to these questions as the year plays out.
Be sure to vote in our new poll!

The only reason they're doing this to Basciano is because they believed he was trying to have the judge and prosecutor assassinated. This has nothing to do with the murder of Randy Pizzolo. Very true, Vinny. Randy Pizzolo was a bottom-feeding, nickel-bag dealing, lowlife piece of shit. He was vermin. His murder was what cranky, veteran cops refer to as a "public service homicide." Being that no one in law enforcement was actually killed (or even attacked for that matter), this death penalty charge is a farce. Now don't get me wrong. If Vinny succeeded in killing a judge, that's one thing, and that calls for the death penalty. But he didn't, so it's moot.

If he deserves death, then so does millions of people who rape, murder and do everyhting thats forbidden. They never succeeded with a death penalty against a mafia member. It wont get through, its just a media spectacle. You forgot about Louis "Lepke" Buchalter who was electrocuted on March 4, 1944

I wouldn't be surprised if Basciano got death. You know, in 2007, a guy by the name of Ronell Wilson was sentenced to death for killing two undercover detectives. It was the first successful federal capital punishment prosecution in New York in more than 50 years. Guess who the judge was?
That's right. Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis. A new jury will decide whether the man accused of killing two city police officers will be sentenced to death or life in prison. Ronell Wilson was the first person in New York to be sentenced to death in half a century. He was convicted of killing two undercover detectives during an undercover gun bust on Staten Island in 2003. Wilson's death sentence was thrown out last year because of an error made by the prosecutor during the death penalty phase of his trial. Prosecutors will now re-try the penalty phase instead of asking the Supreme Court to review the decision to throw out the original death sentence. Wilson is now on death row at a federal prison in Indiana. http://statenisland.ny1.com/content/top_stories/133740/new-jury-to-decide-fate-of-accused-cop-killer

I highly doubt any of them will be executed.
