SB, you didn't use the tried and true method - bathing in tomato juice. My sister had a dog who would get skunked quite often.

Everything I read on the internet said that the tomato juice thing doesn't work as well as the peroxide/baking soda/dish soap combo. And after smelling her and cleaning the tub out for the Nth time, it was worth the $40 to bring her to Petco. The problem was that she got sprayed right in the face, so we had to be very careful near her eyes with everything we used. Plus, she kept rubbing her damn snout all over the furniture!

It was WELL worth it, but the only reason they were able to take her so quickly was that it snowed here over the weekend, and people canceled.

A few years ago, I ran over a skunk. No matter what I did, that smell never completely disappeared. I can't tell you how many times we aired that car out, washed it, dumped box after box of baking soda inside it - on a humid day, you could still smell it! I couldn't take it any more, and traded the damn thing in.

I think I mentioned once before on these boards that I never found the odor of skunks to be offensive.

Same here - I've never seen the film at all. I have nothing against seeing it, but I'd have to be in the mood for it. I haven't seen all that many films in the last twenty years or so, I have to confess. But I'm not ruling out the possibility.

No wi-fi here at my folks now, since it's connected directly. Can leech a very weak signal a few mins/day from a neighbor on my crappy laptop, but it's futile. IPhone picks it up much better, but neither are that fun to read or type a lot on, so haven't been around much. (As opposed to Facebook app ;))

Mom's doing GREAT! Basically 99.99% and will get some therapy for the next couple weeks. Weather in Fla has been awesome compared to NJ -- 80°/60°F and mostly Sunny until Tuesday. I should be back Wednesday, then will be VERY busy going thru hours and hours of my DVR. Great thing about FiOS is I can monitor/add/delete my DVR shows directly from my iPhone so shouldn't miss anything important.

So glad to hear that Mama Malta is doing well.

Duke Snider, the centerfielder for the Brooklyn Dodgers from the late '40s to the early '60s (when the team had moved out to L.A.) died today at age 84.

Snider was my favorite ballplayer of all-time (by virtue of him playing for my favorite hometown team). He hit with power and he had a quiet elegance about him.

He was a third of the three greatest centerfielders in NYC at the same time (the two others were Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays). Snider's stats for the years that the three played together in NYC were every bit as good as those for Mickey and Willie.

Some years ago Don Cardi surprised me with a gift of an autographed photo of Snider. It's been hanging on my wall since, and now has an even greater significance to me.

R.I.P. Duke. You'll always be a hero to me.
