Döner Kebab is the number one choice in Berlin. Not surprising, given all the Turks in Germany. I remember, in the early Sixties, when West Germany was so short of labor in the Onkel Ludi years that hundreds of thousands of gastarbeiter were welcomed. Many worked at Volkswagenwerk AG, which was the symbol (at least in America) of the "German Economic Miracle." But, another German "fast food" got an unwitting boost from President Kennedy in that era. Making his famous visit to the Berlin Wall, JFK said, "Ich bin ein Berliner."
He meant to say that he was standing, as one, with Berliners. But "ein Berliner" is a German pastry; so what he said to the Germans was, "I am a pastry." He should have said, "Ich bin Berliner."

That's a myth. He said what he meant, and everybody got the message. In some parts of West Germany a donut-like pastry is called "Berliner". In Southern Germany they call it "Krapfen". And in the Eastern parts of Germany (including West Berlin) it's called "Pfannkuchen". But even in West Germany nobody misunderstood him. We even have a pastry called "Amerikaner".

Never eat it. Fast food for me is celery sticks and hummus. I also never eat fast food, hate it. When I was a little kid my mother would never let me eat any fast food so whenever I would go out with friends that is what we would eat, but then one day around 4:00 in the morning we went to McDonalds and I saw the grossest thing ever and refused to eat fast food ever again. LOVE hummus though.

A Chicken Maryland - Chinese Take-away is always good, which if your from the UK and eat at Chinese Takeaways, will probably see on the European section of the menus. Fried chicken breast, sausage, ham, chips and usually comes with battered banana and pineapple with syrup for desert.

We're getting a Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers outlet here. Anyone have an opinion about them? My dog and I drive through one for a hot dog (each) occasionally. They do shoestring fries, which is nice for a change. The hot dogs are competent, on a toasted, buttered bun. A little on the small side. The chili tastes okay, but it's more puree than chunky. They occasionally give my dog a little custard in a dish, and he seems to like that pretty well.

I'm relatively strict about my diet 6 days out of 7. But as a cheat meal...well, what to choose. Belgium has an invasion of McDonalds restaurants, but when I go across the border I prefer Burger King or KFC. Other treats are Chinese takeaway, a Döner Kebab or Pasta Carbonara. Come to think of it, it's been a long time since I last had McDonalds, Burger King, KFC, Chinese, Kebab or Carbonara lol
