Thanks, that was a nice clip. If I saw it before, I don't remember it. It is a reminder of just how good of friends Frank & Sammy were. Both are great talents.

This almost seems unbelievable (hard) to actually put into print, but if I'm not mistaken it was Sinatra who insisted certain hotel(s) allow Sammy in at a time when Blacks weren't allowed. My God, that sounds so awful doesn't it?

TIS, you might want to read "Yes I Can", Sammy's autobiography. It's one of the best bios I've ever read and he discusses his friendship with Sinatra at length.

It was written in '67 or so, so it's not totally up-to-date but it is well worth your time.

BTW - When the Rat Pack was appearing in Vegas in the early '60s there were still segregation rules in effect. Davis wasn't allowed to stay at the same hotel as the other Rat Packers. Frank and Dean put an end to that.

I'll bet that Vegas hotel was the Sahara which is now being torn down.

Anyway, I always found Sammy to be so multi-talented. He could sing, act, dance all very very well. Plus, he had a great sense of humor. If you remember some of those Rat Pack skits he was a good sport as well.

TIS, you're of the same general age as me so you'd appreciate this. When we were young there were TONS of new idols coming out... Elvis, the Beatles, Dylan, etc.... I had two posters on my bedroom wall then (back in '65 or so). One was of Dylan, the other was of Sammy Davis, Jr.

Talk about eclectic tastes.

I regret that I wasn't old enough to actually see "The Rat Pack." Something I think I've appreciated more in later years as I picked up on that atmosphere.

I know it's not the same but next time I go to Vegas I want to see "The Rat Pack" show. Not the original of course, but I hear it's pretty good. Since I missed the first go-around, this would be fun.

Let me put it this way...to my knowledge I am the oldest female poster and possibly the 2nd oldest of all regular posters. Mind you, not everyone has said his/her age, but I'm fairly confident I'm correct or very close.
