DVR/VCR ALERT TONIGHT

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) is airing some early mob movies tonight. Two of them are relatively unknown and you may consider watching or taping them.

All times listed are Eastern time:

8:00 pm - "City Streets" (starring Gary Cooper from 1931)

9:30 pm - Paul Muni is outstanding as "Scarface" (1932)

11:15 pm - "Little Caesar" (Edward G Robinson) from 1930

12:45 am - "The Mayor of Hell" stars James Cagney in this 1933 film.

Nice lineup! Actually, I'm not familiar with "City Streets." Doesn't ring a bell. But, anything with Gary Cooper is always worth seeing, though.

"The Mayor of Hell" sounds like a good choice for Mike Bloomberg's next job.

I watched Little Ceaser last night for the first time probably in a decade. Didn't Edward G.'s performance seem a bit amatuerish, almost comical at times? I wonder if that was a function of his relatively shallow acting experieince at the time or also a functionof the way actors portrayed roles at the time.

Nothing warms the cockles of our heart quite like seeing new parents in the throes of baby bliss. But not everyone is a fan of domestic tranquility, at least when the parents in question are Elton John and David Furnish, who welcomed son Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John on Christmas Day.

The joyous couple's cover story in last week's Us Weekly, in which they debuted and discussed their "happy little soul" of a newborn son, apparently riled up some shoppers at an Arkansas grocery store, prompting employees to break out a so-called "family shield" to safeguard impressionable youth from Elton and David's happiness.

A photo of the covered-up cover was tweeted on Tuesday by a customer at a Harps Supermarket outpost in Mountain Home, who said she was "shocked and horrified" that the magazine had been censored "to protect young Harps shoppers."

Was the funeral of my wifes mother yesterday. Glad to get it over with for all concerned.

It is sad indeed. I do feel for your family. Now, even harder is to get adjusted to life without her and move on. Easier said than done. I guess that's where "time" comes in.

NATURAL BORN CITIZENS

In a Florida State University classroom, they were discussing the qualifications to be President of the United States. It was pretty simple. The candidate must be a natural born citizen of at least 35 years of age.

However, one girl in the class immediately started in on how unfair was the requirement to be a natural born citizen. In short, her opinion was that this requirement prevented many capable individuals from becoming president. The class was taking it in and letting her rant, and not many jaws hit the floor when she wrapped up her argument by stating "What makes a natural born citizen any more qualified to lead this country than one born by C-section?"

Does anyone have a weird fear or paranoia?? If I'm out in public in my sweats with no makeup on, I'm convinced that Stacy and Clinton from "What Not To Wear" are filming me for my secret footage. Then they're going to leap out from behind a pillar and tell me that I've been chosen to be on the show.

Every time i leave the house i always get the feeling that i have either forgotten something or left the door open or something. The feeling usually passes when i realise i have left something at home like my phone or wallet....although i am yet to leave the front door open...plenty of time for that though

NEW YORK — An iPhone app aimed at helping Catholics through confession and encouraging lapsed followers back to the faith has been sanctioned by the Catholic Church in the United States.

"Confession: A Roman Catholic App," thought to be the first to be approved by a church authority, walks Catholics through the sacrament and contains what the company behind the program describes as a "personalized examination of conscience for each user".

"Our desire is to invite Catholics to engage in their faith through digital technology," said Patrick Leinen of the three-man company Little iApps, based in South Bend, Indiana.

Smoking marijuana might trigger an earlier onset of psychosis, a new analysis of previously published research suggests.

Among people who developed a psychotic illness, those who had smoked pot developed the illness almost three years earlier than those who hadn't, the Australian researchers said, and they speculated that marijuana may actually cause psychosis in some patients. Their report was published online Feb. 7 and will appear in the June print issue of the Archives of General Psychiatry.

Having a chance to write an honors thesis, I stupidly took it, electing something to do w/ Scorsese and Catholic guilt.
In the process of rewatching all his stuff, some of which I hadnt seen since I was around here (Who's The Knocking, mainly), which got me all nostalgic and whatnot, so I thought I'd come by and have a peek.
