I have Time Warner and I don't think I have "THIS" channel. However, I was in Michigan a couple weeks ago and although they don't have cable tv (yes, regular tv) they do have THIS. I never heard of it. Unless I have it under another name???

Danny Aiello, a big guy with a big New Yawk accent, is best known for roles like Sal, the boisterous pizzeria owner in Spike Lee’s 1989 film, “Do the Right Thing,” which won him an Oscar nomination. In the play “The Shoemaker,” which is now in previews and opens on Sunday at the Acorn Theater, Mr. Aiello is a different kind of New Yorker. A wounded immigrant, he seethes with rage and sadness in the title role of an Italian Jewish shoemaker named Giuseppe, holed up in his shop in Hell’s Kitchen on 9/11, trying to shut out the chaos outside and the memories of loss it ignites.

A two-act drama by Susan Charlotte, directed by Antony Marsellis, “The Shoemaker” began life as a one-act play in 2001, and Mr. Aiello starred in it last summer, also at the Acorn. And it became a 2007 film, “A Broken Sole,” with the same three creative partners in place.

Mr. Aiello, 78, whose film career took off in 1973 with “Bang the Drum Slowly,” went on to make dozens of films, including “Moonstruck” in 1987. His long list of theater credits include Biggie the bartender in “Lamppost Reunion,” and others in “Hurlyburly” and “The House of Blue Leaves.” Mr. Aiello is also a singer, touring with an eight-piece jazz band. He is working on a one-man musical about the life of Al Capone.

In a recent interview in Manhattan he talked about “The Shoemaker,” coping with loss and his approach to his craft. The following are edited excerpts.

Don't forget that AMC will broadcast several Mob movies starting next week including the GF (hope it's the Trilogy), Carlito's Way, and Scarface.

I saw a brief preview and I know GF is one of the films but can't remember the rest.

On another note, evidently Joe Pesci was offered a role in the new Gotti movie; then it was taken away and he was offered a smaller role. Thing is, he gained 30 pounds to play Angelo Ruggiero. Now he's suing.

I can honestly say I would never "Intentionally" gain 30 pounds for nobody!!

How about DeNiro gaining all that weight for Raging Bull and The Untouchables? Maybe they paid him by the pound.

Yes I remember at the time thinking how different DeNiro looked with that extra weight. Can you imagine all the work having to take it off again?

I think Rene Zeilweger (sp) also gained weight for "Bridget Jones Diary."

Saw it, too. Pretty good movie - I liked it a lot. After that we ordered up "The Lincoln Lawyer" with Matthew McConaughy, Trace Adkins, Marisa Tomei and William H. Macy. This is a very good movie with a lot of twists.

Yea, I really didn't know what to expect. The preview I was most familiar with was the scene where they are all in masks before they rob the bank. Not a bad movie tho.

Thanks Lilo. I missed your review but it's pretty accurate IMHO.

On another note:

I am a huge Bourne fan. I saw the first film on tv and was immediately addicted. I found myself totally wrapped up in it. I saw the other two films and must say, I love them all.

Now, there is going to be a fourth (kind of), The Bourne Legacy, BUT without Matt Damon and according to this article the character of Jason Bourne won't even be in this installment. I'm guessing it's because Matt Damon didn't want to make another Bourne film without the original director.

As the author of the article says I don’t see myself being enthusiastic about a movie that doesn’t feature what should be its main character. I agree with even the description the tv cable guide has on this Bourne series (roughly), You know those movies where there is only one person to play a character? In my view, there is only one Jason Bourne and that is Matt Damon.

IF I see this movie it likely will be on HBO or regular tv as opposed to going to the theater to see, which is what I would do if Matt Damon had the lead.

Just got back from Pittsburgh. Twice I forgot that they were filming Batman there and got caught in gigantic traffic jams in Oakland and then again near Heinz Field.

I heard on the radio this morning that Billy Crystal says he wants to host the Oscars this year. Don't think it's official but that would be great. IMHO he's the best host they've had.

I watched part of West Side Story last night. I assume it's the west side of Manhattan. True? In any case, how does the West Side of today compare to the West Side in the movie? What are the changes since '61?

Billy Crystal annoys me in 99% of the time in his movie roles. Analyze This (& That) especially. Just watched Running Scared (1986) with Gregory Hines and Jimmy Smits and it is by far the best character he's done. Totally unrealistic 80's movie, but good.

Although I don't know that "annoy" is the word, I kind of agree. I never am very interested in any of his movies, but just love how he hosts the Oscars. He's perfect and cracks me up.

His performance in Analyze This was one of the best; not so much in Analyze That.

I just heard that Nancy Grace was going to be on DWTS next season. Somehow I just can't picture her twirling around a dance floor with a smile on her face......unless the fangs came out as well. Maybe she's a great dancer, I don't know, but I can't even picture it.

Hold on to your disco pants: Dancing With the Stars is looking to get a little wild heading into its 13th season. The celebrity cast vying for the Disco Ball is a mix of lightning-rod personalities, reality stars and heroes.

Leading the way, outspoken basketball star Ron Artest (in the midst of legally changing his name to Metta World Peace) joins controversial TV host Nancy Grace, quirky actor David Arquette (recently separated from wife Courteney Cox) and former gabfest host Ricki Lake. The cast also will feature its first transgender contestant in Chaz Bono, who recently underwent female-to-male gender reassignment, as well as a Hills star known for stirring up trouble (Kristin Cavallari), a women's soccer star (Hope Solo), a Kardashian (Rob) and an actor and war hero (J.R. Martinez) who was disfigured serving in Iraq.

Wasn't Ricki Lake in "Hairspray"? If so, then she must have some dance experience. No former NFL star?? That blows. Anytime they use a basketball player, the height difference with their partner is a terrible hindrance. Why do they keep doing it?

Are any of you Board members a fan of Pawn Stars? I watch it quite a bit. It's interesting that it takes place in Las Vegas where I suspect that just about everyone who comes in the shop to sell an item is a gambling addict. There are some quite valuable and rare items that people try to sell. I always wonder why they don't try to auction or to otherwise market them. I don't know if the pawn shop is their first try or not, but it seems that it would be the last place I'd go if I had a Revolutionary War Bond or a similar historical item.

I would guess that either they are desperate for the money, or they just want to be on TV.
