Does anyone know of any on-line Photos of the DeMeo crew? I've only really seen the black and white mugshots of the crew when they got busted that wikipedia uses. I've only seen 1 still picture of Freddie and that was on Youtube but cant find it anymore. I've only ever seen 1 picture of Henry, 1 of Chris and 1 of Dracula
Thanks

I will definitely agree that the IROC is a badass car. I'm sure good ole rosenberg would have stolen many Z28's and IROC'S back in the day, too bad he didn't live to see them!

Most of you guys probably know Freddie DiNome was a pretty decent drag racer in the 1970's. He raced under the name Freddy DeName and was known as Broadway Freddy. If you look around the old drag racing sites the old time guys have a few pretty funny stories of DiNome.

Damn Senter looks like personified evil in that picture. Who's that he's walking behind, and what are they leaving?

Damn Senter looks like personified evil in that picture. Who's that he's walking behind, and what are they leaving? The old man is Arthur Ruffels. Now retired, in the 1980s he was one of the key figures in law enforcement to bring down the DeMeo Crew. The picture is most likely from the 1980s when Senter was arrested.

Any photos of Richie Dinome or Joey Lee? (Vitos boyfriend) There's a photo of Richie DiNome in the hardcover version of Murder Machine, for what it's worth.

That area of Brooklyn, Flatbush, Canarsie where the crew terrorized, do no Italians live there now? Or do mafia still operate there? Flatbush and East Flatbush is mostly a black neigborhood. immigrants from the West Indies - Carribeans, Jamaicans, etc. Canarsie's very mixed; Definitely still some italians there but it's not a stronghold/enclave. It's been Corrozo (Gambino) 'territory' - even though I think that crew all lives out on Long Island or somewhere else.

Full mugshot of Chris Rosenberg. Screenshot from a documentary. I also have several semi-rare photos of Anthony "Nino" Gaggi, DeMeo's superior, if anyone is interested.

Gaggi arriving to court in 1984. Arrested by the FBI for running an auto theft ring in 1954. He was arrested in the middle of the night so that's why he looks tired. Alternative 1984 mugshot without the sunglasses. Surveillance photo, date unknown. Most probably early 1980s.

Amazing how you never know who lives next door. Harvey "Chris" Rosenberg lived on my block in Brooklyn. He was approximately 5 years older than me. I was friends with his younger brothers. The block we lived on was 95% Jewish, not predominantly Italian like is written in Wikipedia.
I never knew this side of "Chris"! He was just a very normal person in his public life. When he was shot and had his jaw disfigured I was told he grew the beard to cover the injury from a car accident. No he didn't drive an IROC but he did have some cool cars in his short life. He drove a 1972 El Camino SS 454 with a 4 speed, a 1958 Corvette, an older silver Ferrari and a couple of motorcycles. One was a BSA and I think he also may have had a Triumph. I once saw him extinguish a carburetor fire in the Vette with his leather jacket, lol. He also had a friend with a cool 1965 GTO with tri-power. Chris was actually a real nice guy in my eyes. What a surprise when I stumbled on all this some 35-40 years later. Also "Broadway Freddie DeName" was sort of a legend in Brooklyn. Rumor had it that the cops closed off Foster ave. in Brooklyn and let him run his dragster for a crowd and he even got to pull the chute! Reading the post about Freddie mooning people in Canarsie I had to laugh because I was also one of those people that rode around in Canarsie mooning people. It was all the rage back then, lol!

Great find Gerry, I hadn't seen the photo of Profeta. And Edmund, thanks too, that last photo of Gaggi Im pretty sure I hadn't seen yet. Amazing how you never know who lives next door. Great story. Thanks for sharing Brooklyn. You hear so many guys on mob forums going on about how they knew this guy or that guy, in this case your story has a definite ring of truth IMO. Especially since you're not making any outlandish claims, just saying what you did and what you knew. Its so easy to forget in these cases, knowing all we do about certain guys, that they like anyone else had family, friends and neighbours who had no inkling as to what was really going on beneath the surface. Thanks again. Please keep posting.

Profeta certainly got about didnt he? Yes, he has, but it seems he is giving up his life in the mafia to tend to abused and unwanted animals. Wiseguy tries bait and switch Posted: 2:01 AM, December 2, 2011
Tweet More Print A veteran New York mobster wants to meet with the fishes.
Carlo Profeta, an acting captain in the Lucchese crime family, says he wants to leave his life of crime behind to fish and commune with nature.
Profeta, 69, is scheduled to be sentenced on extortion charges next week. In a letter to the sentencing judge, his lawyer insists the wiseguy will turn over a new leaf after he’s released.
Profeta “wants to make a complete lifestyle change...and live a simple existence in upstate New York,” the lawyer, Joel Winograd, wrote yesterday. He's “hoping to perfect his skills as a fisherman on the banks of the Hudson River and to care for abused and unwanted animals, passions he has pursued since his youth.”
The ex-con also plans to look after his ailing, elderly mother, the lawyer said.
Profeta's facing up to 20 years behind bars, and Winograd asked the judge to consider sentencing him to a shorter term for using extortion to collect a gambling debt.
In their letter to the Judge Eric Vitaliano, Brooklyn federal prosecutors said Profeta has a long criminal history and poses a danger to the community.
They cited his past racketeering convictions, which includes threatening the operators of a fuel transportation company and a restaurant if they didn’t pay protection money to the Luchese family.
On another occasion, Profeta “used violent threats to force a different restaurant owner to pay a particular meat distributor,” Assistant US Attorney Rachel Nash wrote.

yeah artie says in "war against the mafia" (utube) <----great doc very rare, when he saw roy in the trunk he was like this guy got what was coming to him, as he says "pretty good job" lol - I think roy got shot in patty testa's home or garage, and most likely by Joey and Anthony - who else could get roy to sit down and take his coat off?, I also read in his last days he was armed with a sawed off shotgun and was very paranoid, I dont believe for a second that roy went willingly to be killed, I think if he knew what was up he woulda took out who he could first, ya gotta remember he was a very dangerous man who set up countless people himself, check out Dark Visions on utube (dominick montiglio) it only has the first 11 mins but it's gonna be awesome... (sorry for the long post got a bit carried away lol).. Merry Xmas

I dunno, I watched that Dark Visions and Dom says when he was in Nam- what they did was "F*ck with the NVA" by shooting them at night with a sniper rifle with silencer - he also says "heros dont die for there country, they make the other motherf***er die for theres", I kinda believe he saw some action but who knows, and as the guy above says his records are sealed due to him going into the WPP - Al demeo says his father felt sorry for Dom as he had mental problems after coming back from Nam, and Nino never used Dom for anything important because of this - I noticed that in some of the old doc's when Dom is being interview and his face is blacked out he looks really shaky as if he aint quite right, maybe just because he's thinking back about Roy and them

He claims to have been a big drinker. I don't buy his NAM stories, he might have been in the military, and actually served in NAM, but his stories stink. I wonder what happened to the small players in DeMeo's crew like Ronald Ustica, Peter LaFroscia, Ronald Turekian, etc?

From what I understand Nino's crew was a very powerful street crew and Nino was closer to Delacroce and Big Pauli than other crew leaders because he was a good earner and Pauli was (understandably) afraid Nino and his people. Pauli (alledgely) pretended not to notice Nino's drug-dealing soldiers while he forbidded Gotti's people from doing the same.
I don't think that Nino was in line to be UB in any sense of the word, Thomas Bilotti got the nod after Dellacroce died and Paul was intent on making Tommy Gambino boss after him. Even if he wasn't arrested and died in jail there wasn't much room for advancement for Nino.

Wasn't Nino Gaggi in Big Pauls crew when Paul was a capo? Didn't Nino take over Pauls crew after Castellano was named the new boss? I'll see if I can dig-up more info on that. I know that Nino was brought in by Frank Scalise.

Yes. Gaggi took over Castellano´s old crew. Frank Scalise was dead by the time Gaggi was made.
Thanks for the info. If Paul ever tried to name Tommy Gambino as the next boss it would of been a disaster imo. Nobody really respected him and if you think the blue collar guys were pissed at Castellano you know they would of gone crazy with Tommy G being given the top slot. I doubt TG ever cracked an egg in his life. I agree, Tommy was a capable white-collar criminal but would have never earned enough respect to last a week as boss. But he was Castellano's newphew, so Paul thought he owed it to Don Carlo to make Tommy boss someday. I think that making Bilotti UB after Dellacroce died was somehow supposed to help make that happen without the street-crews rebelling. It seems to be a bad plan aside from Bilotti's loyalty, from what I've heard Bilotti was incompetent.
