Mr. Babe had a disaster recovery meeting on Irene today. Sure looks like it will hit us on Sunday.

I must say, I am only just now reading how big Irene is (category 3?). Geez, an earthquake isn't enough? I do hope it doesn't turn out to be too bad.

Last time we got hit was Floyd, in either 1999 or 2000, I forget. The dam at a nearby lake burst and the lakewater ended up in my backyard. I could have done high dives off my roof and not worried about smacking my head, there was that much water. Hopefully, it won't be as bad this time around, but thanks to over-development, there just aren't enough trees to soak up the rain.

My front walkway gets really flooded from a normal heavy rain. Can't imagine what Sunday will be like. Just gotta be sure that backdoor drain stays clear or I'll be swimming downstairs again.

You may want to get some sandbags to put against the bottom of the backdoor. Put down a heavy plastic tarp against the bottom of the door and then cover it with sandbags (five or six should do).

I remember Hurricane Donna (1960) and LOTS of trees were uprooted then. It was really sad to see but the amazing thing was the smell of wood as the trees sat in the streets for the first week after the hurricane. I hope that is not repeated with Irene.

Boy that sounds awful. Lots of preparation for a hurricane isn't there? Geez, diving off your roof; swimming down the stairs? Have your swim suit handy and a row boat.

I don't think sandbags will be necessary -- this time, I'll actually be home!

What I am a bit worried about are 3 big dead branches in the tree I was going to try to get rid of before the next blizzard. Maybe I should've acted on that sooner -- cuz they might come down. Not on the roof, but my fence -- or my neighbor's fence.

Edit: I should, tho, at least plan for the worst. Who knows what's gonna happen!

107 again here today. They say it might rain a little this morning. So far, nothing wet.

JG, when Floyd hit, we had some bags of dirt in the garage. We ended up using them to divert the water away from our garage door (and yes, TIS, we were in our bathing suits haha). We were lucky, because many of our neighbors got water in their houses that way. Don't underestimate the power of water.

I saw Mayor Bloomberg's press conference this morning, and he said that we might get 6-12 inches of rain, and we're already waterlogged. Better to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

This has been the warmest August on record in this part of Arizona. Today we got a break--didn't crack 90 degrees. Had some t'showers.

Opposite here in my area TB. We've had an exceptionally nice summer that is until the last couple days. We've finally got our triple digits in the Inland Empire. Today was around 102 and suppose to be about the same tomorrow and the next day. I think even I may jump in the pool. Considering the fact that we aren't experiencing any earthquakes, hurricanes and I even heard a couple tornadoes in the midst of Irene, I won't complain.

We had a huge deluge yesterday afternoon (Irene-envy??). Back to 90+ today. Last night's low was 63.

Storm leaves thousands without power, halts festivals across Metro Detroit

Detroit — About 100,000 customers were without power late Saturday night after a severe thunderstorm swept through Metro Detroit and ended early the University of Michigan's season opener in Ann Arbor and halted several Labor Day festivals.
A DTE Energy spokesman said the outages are spread across Oakland, Wayne and Washtenaw counties.
"We'll be working 16 hour shifts until the last customer is restored," DTE spokesman Scott Simons said around 11:p.m. Saturday.
There is a strong chance of thunderstorms throughout this morning and temperatures are expected to be in the high 80s Sunday.
Saturday's storm arrived around 7 p. m with heavy rain and lightning.
In Ann Arbor, Michigan Stadium was evacuated and the opening season game between Michigan and Western Michigan was called with 1:27 left in the third quarter. Michigan won 34-10.
The thunderstorms put a stop to many festivals with winds as fast as 55 mph and 1-inch hail raining down on the different Labor Day festivals in Metro Detroit.
In downtown Detroit, performances at the Jazz Festival were halted around 7 p.m. and festival goers were told to seek shelter from the pounding rain. After a rain delay of an hour, Jazzfest organizers called the festival off just after 8 p.m.
In River Rouge, about eight to 10 people at the Rouge Days Festival were injured because of the storm, said a spokesperson for the National Weather Service in White Lake Township.
The Weather Service reported several down trees and limbs throughout the area as well as a 20 x 20 foot tent collapsing and flying 100 feet away. While none of the injuries were reported to be fatal, several people were taken to the hospital via ambulance.

Here in my area it's pretty rare to get rain this time of year, but it is pouring and what's even more rare is getting thunderstorms. Yikes, the thunder is a-roaring and so loud. When I was little and it thundered we were told "God is moving furniture." LOL However, I think he's pretty pissed by the sound of it. LOL (I'm so not use to thunderstorms anymore that it's actually kind of neat.)

October 12 and it is a scorching 104 degrees outside!

its been in the 60s all last week, all weekend its been in the 80s now its back down to the 60s

It got to 101/102 here today but to be honest I didn't think it felt that warm. It's suppose to be 100 tomorrow and Friday in the 90's and by weekend 80's Like back East usually we get a summery hot day in Oct., it likely wont' be the start of a long trend.

Today's heat has been a lot more manageable than the past couple days. Wednesday and Thursday were 100+ degrees, today it was only in the mid 80s. Boy...California weather sucks!!!

Beautiful today. Sunny, cool and breezy. Around 65 degrees. Perfect.

Well did it again, the weather in the SD, sucks. Cold and blowing it is -4 with the wind chill 30% chance of snow.

Today was high 50s low 60s. November has been mild and December is starting out like that. Nice for my heating bills. Last year was not good. Please stay like this. I don't care if Christmas is 70 degrees.

I know what you mean Mary it is 16 above and feels like 11 the high is suppose to stay at 16, but the sun is shinning and no wind. That wind when it is blowing is miserable. And for this time of the year we are also doing good.
