Lowe's used to be the home supply store for macho do-it-yourselfers who want to pick up a chain saw or a sledge hammer along with a box of garbage bags.

Now it's steeping in a political mess, the result of acceding to the demands of a "pro-family" group — a warm-and-fuzzy sounding way to describe a group that specializes in email campaigns targeted against TV shows that treat minorities as human beings.

In this case, the target was "All-American Muslim," The Learning Channel's new reality show that depicts five Muslim families in Dearborn as they entertain, bicker, laugh and get married. The show's premise — that Muslims are Americans, too — verges on the silly in its obviousness, or so most would think. But the Florida Family Association branded the show, which premiered a month ago, as "propaganda that riskily hides the Islamic agenda's clear and present danger to American liberties and traditional values."

LONDON -- A British Conservative lawmaker in Britain has been fired as a parliamentary aide for attending a friend's Nazi-themed stag party.

The party said Sunday that Aidan Burley had "behaved in a manner which is offensive and foolish" and had been removed as parliamentary private secretary to the transport minister.

The party says Prime Minister David Cameron has ordered an investigation into Burley's behavior.

Last week a newspaper ran a picture showing Burley with a man dressed in an SS uniform at the party.

Burley said he felt "deep regret" about the event, at which guests toasted the Third Reich.

In a letter to the Jewish Chronicle newspaper, he offered an "unreserved, wholehearted and fulsome apology" and said he had "made the wrong choice not to leave" the party.

The world is full of idiots is it not. And yes the UK ...and the royal family do have their fair share

BEIT SHEMESH, Israel - A shy 8-year-old schoolgirl has unwittingly found herself on the front line of Israel's latest religious war.

Naama Margolese is a ponytailed, bespectacled second-grader who is afraid of walking to her religious Jewish girls school for fear of ultra-Orthodox extremists who have spat on her and called her a whore for dressing "immodestly."

Her plight has drawn new attention to the simmering issue of religious coercion in Israel, and the increasing brazenness of extremists in the insular ultra-Orthodox Jewish community.

"When I walk to school in the morning I used to get a tummy ache because I was so scared ... that they were going to stand and start yelling and spitting," the pale, blue-eyed girl said softly in an interview with The Associated Press on Monday. "They were scary. They don't want us to go to the school."

The girls school that Naama attends in the city of Beit Shemesh, to the west of Jerusalem, is on the border between an ultra-Orthodox neighborhood and a community of modern Orthodox Jewish residents, many of them American immigrants.

The ultra-Orthodox consider the school, which moved to its present site at the beginning of the school year, an encroachment on their territory. Dozens of black-hatted men jeer and physically accost the girls almost daily, claiming their very presence is a provocation....

Funny you posted that, Lilo. I was just going to start a thread about it. It seems that every religion has their fanatic wingnuts, and I guess the ultra-Orthodox Jews are no exception .

I couldn't get that poor little girl out of my mind all night after reading that article .

An ultra-Orthodox man in Beit Shemesh, identified only as Moshe, admitted on Israel's Channel 2 television there were spitting attacks at young girls.

"That's right, they are immodest. It bothers me, I am a healthy person. It is proper to spit on a girl who does not conduct herself according to the Torah," Moshe said.
