These are still alive:
Frankie Locascio (in prison), Anthony (Sonny) Ciccone (in prison), Jackie "Nose" D´Amico (in prison), George DeCicco (in prison), Johnny Gambino (in prison?), Thomas Gambino (retired), John Gotti Jr (retired), Peter Gotti (in prison), Danny Marino (in prison), Louis "Bracciole" Ricco, "Big" Lou Vallario (in prison)
Actually this chart is not 100 percent accurate. Three capos escaped under the FBI´s radar when this chart was made; Tony "Baker" Napolitano Sr, Joe "Z." Zingaro and "Little" Nicky Corrozzo.

Yes thanks HK that's the picture I mean. Surely a lot of those crews aren't around today, for instance did anyone take over Tommy Gambino's crew? Or Conte's? Philly Kid I have also read that about the number of current crews however wasn't there a gangland article which said they were down to like 14 or something? Tommy Gambino took over Frank Piccolo's crew that was based in Connecticut. When Tommy went to prison in the early 90's, George Remini took over. Now the crew is run by Carmine Sciandra. Not sure about Conte's crew. Back in the mid-1990's, the Gambinos were said to be down to 10 crews. This was after the Gravano defection, which took down Gotti and several captains. But I imagine that was 10 fully functioning crews. Later DePalma talked about there being more. The 14 crews was the number often cited for the Genovese family in reports from the 70's and 80's.
Mods should mind their own business and leave poster's profile signatures alone.

Ivy, let me agree with you regarding the Gambinos. Right on the money. There are indications that "Italian" Dom Cefalu took over Patsy Conte´s crew. First as an acting capo, and later (after serving a short prison term) as an official capo. When it comes to the Genoveses, they seem to have had close to 20 capos around mid 80s. Mukremins chart (which I hope will soon be ready for display) suggests this.

According to FBI charts, the Genovese had only 6 capos in the early 1960's. I guess the position of capo was a much more powerful position in the past (before the 1980's) , in that there were fewer of them.

Well, I think that you are refering to the Genovese chart that was used in the Valachi hearings. On that chart six capos are shown. But those six were the ones that were known at the time. Here is a small excerpt from a FBI document (dated 1969) that can be found on the Mary Ferrell Foundation site, showing 15 different capos. Vito Genovese Family 1960 Boss Vito Genovese Underboss Gerardo Catena Consigliere Michele Miranda Capodecina Anthony Strollo Angelo DeCarlo Eugene Catena Michael Coppola Peter Defeo Frank Tieri Antonio Carillo Cosmo Frasca Rocco Pellegrino Vincenzo Generoso Salvatore Celembrino Vincent Alo Ruggiero Boiardo John Biele Thomas Greco James Angellino The FBI had learn more about the Mafia and who the players were by the end of the 60s than they knew in 1963. Considering the huge number of soldiers in the Genovese Family (perhaps as many as 450 made men) and only six capos, doesn´t make sense. No capo would be able to run and control a crew of 75 made men (in average), and additional hundreds of associates. Keep in mind that these 15 capos are the known ones by this time. So there could have been even more of them.

Whoever put together the Genovese chart never bothered to consult with Valachi, who was a member of this family for the previous 30 years. Unless he was ignorant of the structure of his own family.
