Frosty, because it's arid, altitude is the main factor in temperatures in AZ. We're at 5,300 feet, so typical winter highs are 40's to low 50's, lows 19-29. We get 10" of precip every year, some of it as snow. I'd say current conditions are typical for us at this time of year, including snow. It was somewhat warmer than usual here last summer--more 90 degree days than usual. Yuma's a regular furnace, as are all the low-lying cities in AZ. Our state deserves its reputation as a state where you can get four seasons in one day. Yesterday's state high was 75 in Chandler, 1 in Bellemont. Just for comparison: we went on an Alaskan cruise last July. Temp never got out of the 40's in Alaska. It was 59 when our ship docked in Seattle. Then we flew to Phoenix--and walked out to 116.

Turnbull, Thank you for the info.. When I was younger used to take a few trips and such. I have been invited to come down to Yuma, but to hot for my fat ass. Sounds like you live in a good place. I have a friend that lived down in Buckeye, and she had to move to another area like where you are, because it was so damm hot and had breathing problems. She told me that it was in the 100 plus's. After having as many injury's and nuts , screws, arthritis, smoking 3-4 packs of lucky's a day I like cool to cold. Heck this summer about burnt my old butt up hare. The air was on all the time. One thing around here the humidty isn't that bad, lived down in Ks,area for 9 1/2 years I wish someone would have wacked me !
Like pc says, the county is changing.
Thanks, Again

Temp finally got up into the low 50's for two days, and the ice in my driveway finally melted. Then, today, more snow. Frosty, another characteristic of life in the High Desert is that we can get accumulating snow even if the temp is above freezing. Today we had about 5" here and the temp was between 39 and 43. I'm not kidding. Also, accumulations are acutely sensitive to altitude. This is part of the big storm that's sweeping the Southwest. We're at 5,300 feet. Above 5,500, they got 12"; above 6,000 they got 12-24". So, I suppose we're lucky.

We have more trees than you'd expect in a "desert," Frosty. We don't have the typical desert landscape with sand and saguaro cactus (the tall ones with the arms). It's actually pretty green here. But we have no deciduous (leaf-bearing) trees. And, I doubt you'd like snow at 39-42 degrees if you had to shovel my steep driveway. ;)TB, when you have to shovel any snow and especially a steep driveway your right I wouldn't like it Last few years I feel God put it there he can take it away. That sounds really pretty in your area. Thanks for sharing.
