Well, it started that way (with an occasional detour to discuss the hind quarters of certain Yankee shortstops), but often stray a bit off topic. We like to kick the boys out (they're gross) and talk about stuff like PMS and scented candles. tongue

Ah I see. I tend to automatically shy away from any sports related topic, but maybe I'll mosey on down(my best cowpoke talk) and see what's happening. smile Are we allowed to have a bitchfest? lol

Albom is melodramatic but some people like it. I don't , particularly, and evidently this reviewer wasn't a huge fan either.
Have a Little Faith

Quote:

A word to the wise: If you are a man of a certain age and Detroit sportswriter/professional wisdom-seeker Mitch Albom starts showing up at your door, you'd best get your affairs in order, because pal, your days are numbered.

At its worst, "Have a Little Faith," which tells of Albom's life-changing relationship with a beloved old rabbi (Martin Landau), is a cynical, preachifying attempt to recapture the success of the Emmy-winning "Tuesdays With Morrie," which told the tale of Albom's life-changing relationship with a beloved old college professor (Jack Lemmon).

"When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives."
Winter is Coming

Now this is the Law of the Jungleā€”as old and as true as the sky; And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die.
As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk, the Law runneth forward and back; For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.

I gotta say with the casting news releases rolling along, Spielberg's LINCOLN movie looks to be not just an Oscar juggernaut contender next year but also can't miss.

(Both which I can't exactly say for his upcoming WAR HORSE.)

HBO ran one of my favorite (yet lesser known IMHO) Clint Eastwood movie last night, "Play Misty For Me." It's been a while since I've seen it and enjoyed watching again. A Fatal Attraction of the 70's. smile

Btw, I forgot that the song, "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" came from that movie.

There have been reports that Spielberg will be re-visiting the Moses story. It's not a remake of "The Ten Commandments" per se, but it will cover the same territory.

I hope it happens.

I've always wondered how cable movie channels decide what to show. When you consider the vast inventory of movies with more being added all the time, it must be a real challenge for them to decide on which ones will attract a certain number of viewers.

While it's expected that they will show movies made in the past year or so, what goes into their decision to show one from 20 or more years ago? Of course, there are the great ones like The Godfather. But why show some of the more obscure ones?

I believe all networks "rent" movie titles for a certain period of time. The more obscure ones are cheaper. Having exclusivity (like AMC's deal with The Godfather series) and popular titles cost more. That's how I guess it works...

Anybody catch the 60s rock and soul legends concert on PBS? Just listened to Jefferson Starship and White Rabbit. Like, far out man. Really cool.

I was gonna watch that but was watching another channel. I'll catch it sooner or later.

BTW, a year or so ago I was flipping thru the channels and stopped at the PBS channel. There was a band playing but I didn't know the song. The older guy with long gray hair suddenly started belting out "House of the Rising Sun" before I realized it was Eric Burden and the Animals. eek I thought to myself, man he's getting old. Of course I'm not but everyone else is. lol Time marches on for everyone.

Good I'm not alone. Yet, I love the Marx Brothers and they were real corny. confused

Btw, I believe Stephen King's "Bag Of Bones" is on this Sunday. I know it's a two parter, and am not sure if part two is on the next night or the next week.

LOL I think it's a guy thing. They like all the "clobbering" and "eye polking". lol

I wonder how it'll go over today. The scene, for instance when Moe hits Larry (?) over the head with the hammer? eek

You know it use to be popular to give little boys guns/holster sets for Christmas. Is that now in bad taste I wonder?

A little help.

In Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan was there a scene where Kahn says "From hell's heart I stab at thee"? If so, what scene was it?

A reminder to anyone interested, that A&E is airing Stephen King's "Bag Of Bones", part 1 tonight. I didn't read it and don't really know much about it, but am looking forward to seeing it.

It works for me because two of my favorite shows aren't on tonight (Desperate Housewives & Walking Dead) so I'm free and clear. lol

Sorry Oli, I can't help. I'm not a Star Trek fan. ohwell

Does anyone watch "Person Of Interest" on CBS? Were you surprised of the ending last night? I kind of thought they'd keep Reece's identity from the lady cop. Anyway, I kind of like the show.

TIS, I seldom watch any new shows. I watch reruns.

By the way,I asked you this before, but i forgwet your answer. I used the example last time of NFL games which you stated you didn't watch. But you know men who do, right?

Okay. I'm in the CST time zone. So, here it's noon on Sundays when games start - 1PM on the east coast. I take it then that the games start in CA at 10AM,right. If so, that would seem to make it hard on NFL fans there who, for one, have to start out pretty early to get to a home game or even to watch it on TV. Also, all of the live broadcasts of pre-game shows like NFL Today would be starting pretty early.

I was also thinking about other live broadcasts such as the Thanksgiving Day parades which start about 9 or so on the east coast which means that ya'll in CA have to get up about 6 or so to watch the Parade from the beginning. Doesn't all of that crimp your style? And what about New Year's Eve?

Oli, other than boxing my father was not into sports, nor were either of my two brothers or my ex-husband. HIS family was all into sports and now my SIL is a big sports fan (huge basketball/Laker fan) and knows a lot about sports; and of course when I was working somebody was a fan of some sport. That's about it. smile

Oli,

In answer to the games start times, like the super bowl or whatever, would start 3 hours earlier than the east coast.
As far as the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, it is a rebroadcast and usually airs in the morning 9 or 10 and then again later in the day.

Time's Square New Years Eve is seen it at 9:00 p.m. here which is a little early for celebration since it's not exactly the new year yet. lol BUT it is repeated also from 11:00 - 12:00. They have (or use to have) a Live countdown show from Las Vegas which I use to enjoy watching because for me it was in real time. smile
