Encore's Jerry Lewis documentary is must-see for fansBy Kimberly Potts | Reuters – 6 hrs ago
LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - It's light on biographical details, but Encore's documentary "Method to the Madness of Jerry Lewis" is a must-see for Lewis fans who want to hear from a who's who of the comedy world about how Lewis inspired them.
Eddie Murphy, who starred in a remake of "The Nutty Professor," is nearly giddy when he talks about Lewis' comedy techniques. Jerry Seinfeld calls Lewis the "diamond of comedy" and says the decision by Lewis and former comedy partner Dean Martin to end their collaboration while they were hot inspired him to end "Seinfeld" in the "moment before, not the moment after."
Celebrities like Carol Burnett, Billy Crystal, Quentin Tarantino, Richard Lewis, Carl Reiner, John Landis and Lewis' pal Richard Belzer also chime in. Burnett says Lewis was sexy -- when he wasn't doing his "Hey, lady!" routine.
The Lewis-produced documentary doesn't go into any detail, or even mention, the star's work with the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Though it ended badly, it remains one of his life's biggest accomplishments, as he helped raise billions of dollars for the charity. And except for Lewis' brief and interesting recollection of joining his parents' stage act as a five-year-old in a tuxedo, details on his early years are also sparse.
But the abundance of testimony to his comic genius is matched with a plethora of clips from his greatest performances, including the classic "Who's Minding the Store?" typewriter scene, a clip Burnett says she could watch on a loop.
"Method to the Madness of Jerry Lewis" premieres Saturday at 8/7c on Encore. To get viewers in a Lewis state of mind, Encore is airing a mini-marathon of his movies before the documentary's premiere, beginning with "The Bellboy" at 1:50 p.m., and including "The Errand Boy," "The Geisha Boy" and "The Ladies Man."

I didn't know that was a documentary but have heard about it. Sounds good. Oli, Back to your question about what time sports/events are shown here in CA. There is at least one award show (can't think of whick one, but don't think it's Oscar) that airs from L.A. YET East Coast sees it first and we see it 3 hours later. Go figure. I remember because I'll see people posting results and comments and it hasn't aired here yet. Obviously we see the tape of the live broadcast. LOL Don't know why. TIS

Does anyone watch FX's American Horror Story? I've seen previews and I've read good reviews on it. Unfortunately the last episode for season one airs tomorrow. Anyone know if (when) you'll see repeats and also, if it's continuing type story? If so I'll want to see it from the beginning. Thanks TIS

Oli, I just saw the Robertson story tonight. You had asked me a couple days ago about my lack of interest/knowledge of sports. Do you want a good laugh? I kept half listening to this Tebow story and was wondering what kind of sport a Tebow was (bow/arrow or something) :.lol: Never heard of it. I was half listening. It was a day or so later I see it's a person. Yes, I'm that NOT into it. TIS

Madonne TIS! That's exactly why I want a federal law that compels all grade schools to teach an NFL class to all little girls. Whoa Whoa!! If that's the case, then they MUST teach all little boys how to spend the day at the mall shopping for clothes. ;)It'll teach them patience. TIS

At least if girls learn about the NFL, that is about human endeavor and accomplishment, courage, skill, and a host of other positives. Learning about shopping would be pure, unadulterated punishment! Good points SB. Steroids to me is nothing less than cheating but that doesn't seem to matter to fans I guess. Ok, ignore me cause I don't know nothing about sports. Yet, in my defense tho, I may not know teams but I do know most of the big names. I mean Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Kobe Bryant, Tiger Woods for instance. Who hasn't heard of them? I'm not totally out of the loop. I even learn about sports thru music. Why, it was Simon & Garfunkle who taught me that DiMaggio's nickname was "Joltin Joe." Boy, really off topic for the movie/tv random thread. TIS

The Hobbit movie trailer has been released. It looks pretty good! I can't wait! Especially since it'll be a year from now for Part I and another year for Part II.

Does anyone watch "Being Human?" SyFy had all episodes from the first season yesterday. I had seen most of them but it's so damn long between seasons I thought I'd refresh my memory. I missed the last couple episodes and will try to catch up. Btw, I've also seen several episodes of the UK version (which is actually the original version I believe) and that's not too bad either. In the "Shortest Marriages" sweepstakes, we have this week's winner knocking the Kardashians out of 1st place:

Sinead O'Connor Pulls Plug on Marriage After 16 Days
Even by Hollywood standards, Sinead O'Connor's latest marriage was a disaster. I guess the couple were seen together Christmas Eve. God bless her if she can overcome and forgive Arnold's escapades. It would be an uphill struggle that's for sure. TIS

(PEOPLE.com) -- Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger have come together for another major occasion since the journalist filed for divorce from her husband in July.
A source close to the family tells PEOPLE the two spent Christmas together with their children at their home in Brentwood, California, and they "had a really nice time" over the holiday. According to the source, they also attended the Los Angeles Lakers' season opener game at the Staples Center in the afternoon. Spending time together, however, isn't unprecedented for the two. Since their split, Shriver, 56, was by her ex's side on his 64th birthday in July. "Children and family come first," a source close to the estranged couple told PEOPLE earlier this year, with an additional insider adding, "Arnold and Maria will always come together when it comes to supporting and loving their children."
The family Christmas celebration comes amid online reports that Shriver is having second thoughts about ending her marriage.

Ok, I just watched the pilot episode of American Horror Story on-line and really liked it. I tried to watch the 2nd episode and notice I can watch it if I pay. I went to FX site and they don't have the first half of the season. On Demand is showing episodes 8 - 12. Anyone know of a site where I can watch full episodes w/o paying and if possible without downloading (I worry about viruses). This is the site that allowed me to watch pilot for free. Anyone else watch the show. I really liked the pilot. http://www.tv.com/shows/american-horror-story/episodes/
