Fair enough, I hate guys who actually wait and hang around schools in their cars waiting to pick up younger girls. That's wrong. But in social settings where people meet is cool.

I don't get the problem with this. What's wrong with asking? Surely that's better than assuming she already drinks and tries to poor gallons down her throat.

Maybe it's different here and with our legal age limit to consume alcohol being 18 it could have an effect. My first date with someone usually goes along the lines of going for a drink first. Alright I'm older but not THAT much.
