If Anthony had joined the family business, he would have "legitimized" Michael far more than the Papal Knighthood and Immobiliare. There would have been no need for the Vincent character because Vincent would have been a reminder of "illegitimacy" in two ways: his involvement in the rackets through his association with Zasa, and, literally, his illegitimate birth.
