The only drawback with RED for me is two of the more overused settings in action movies are dockyards and warehouses, and RED uses them both. But that's only a minor quabble only I will complain about. I've noticed that, too. I think action directors feel like boatyards add depth of scenery, or some such thing. Whenever you need a spy/ex-cop cliché, just have the hero living on a boat, burnt-out, beer in his hand. If they ever do a "Miami Vice" reunion (not counting the 2006 film), is there any doubt that Crockett will still be living on his boat, only somehwere in the Florida Keys?

Like most cliches, they're the best friends for the creatively bankrupt. I mean how many big budget Hollywood movies have destroyed New York City? (Hell we had two movies this summer involving NYC and the alien invasion plot: THE AVENGERS and MEN IN BLACK 3.) I would blame that cliche on the original KING KONG. I thought the last TRANSFORMERS movie was truely atrocious, but I'll give Michael Bay and those assholes credit for at least having those alien robots blow up Chicago.

The first Bay movie I paid to see at the theatres since I guess BAD BOYS 2. Thing is I deserve derision because I knew it would suck but I guess I was in the mood for crap. That's the thing about Bay: He always makes the same movie over and over, difference only in budgets, but I do give him credit for his consistent success because he appeals to the very lowest of low audience expectations. He's like those POLICE ACADEMY sequels, except more explodey. And less Steve Guttenberg and that guy who made noises with his mouth. I like to think you can learn as much about the movies from the turkeys as you do from the winners. (Screen THE AVENGERS and BATTLESHIP together, it's quite a revelation.) Bad Boys 2 was a decent movie, I remember almost every kid in college who had dvd's had that movie. It is fun to watch when your having a drink and your seeing tons of action/stuff blow up. I thought Pearl harbor was a decent movie as well, I am a big war movie buff.

Just saw the History Channel's ad about the Godfather Legacy starting July 24. It appears to be a history of the film's production. Wow, thanks for that! According to their site: The Godfather Legacy The Corleone crime family has touched millions of lives for more than four decades. From their origins in a pulp fiction novel by author Mario Puzo, the Corleones inspired one of the most important and enduring films in history. Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather not only broke box office records--it actually infiltrated the American conscience. Narrated by Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos,) this special looks at how this groundbreaking 1972 film and its two sequels transcended Hollywood, transformed the American psyche, and even influenced real-life organized crime. Historians, scholars, law enforcement agents, and real-world Mafiosi explain how these powerful mobsters, with their moral ambiguity and human flaws, resonated with audiences and impacted popular culture. Also features interviews with screenwriter/director Coppola, Al Pacino, James Caan, Joe Mantegna, Talia Shire, and others, along with an abundance of memorable scenes from the trilogy. Apparently it's 2 hours long

I'm definitely going to DVR the GF special. It looks promising. And yes, TIS, I was hoping to watch Sigourney Weaver. I like her as an actress, plus the fact that I can't believe she's in her 60s! She looks amazing.
I'm watching more and more of the USA shows. I used to watch In Plain Sight (still can't believe they canceled it) and now I'm watching Covert Affairs and Suits. I think Suits has some very, very good writing, plus I really like Gina Torres. They manage to write her character as a smart, tough woman without making her a bitch, which isn't easy. SB, If you watch USA, you must watch White Collar (Tues. 9:00 p.m.) I haven't watched Suits, but took it as somewhat of a ripoff of White Collar. TIS

I haven't really watched White Collar. Is that the one like Catch Me If You Can? Hmm I never really took it so much as a "Catch Me If You Can." I think it's a little more comparable to "It Takes A Thief" (Robert Wagner's old show). Sort of a light drama but fun to watch. If you get a chance tune in. TIS

Yea, he does work for the FBI, still with an ankle bracelet. It's not a heavy drama but still entertaining IMHO. TIS

Does anyone plan on watching the USA mini-series, "Political Animals" with Sigourney Weaver tonight? Did you watch it, TIS? If so, what did you think of it? I enjoyed it, with the exception of her ex-husband, the former President. I thought the character was too cartoonish, more old school LBJ-type than Bill Clinton.

I did see it and to tell you the truth it was better than I thought it would be. We got a little information on each character (the gay son, the bolemic future Daughter-in-law). I agree that her husband seemed old school, though I disliked the character from the beginning. He looks familiar, do you know who he is? Btw, I liked the 2nd episode of the Newsroom too. I like that it is partially "real" (ie, wanting stories that the main stream media missed that they should have reported) Don't know if you saw it, but it was pretty good too. But tonight for me, it's more lightweight drama with White Collar's 2nd episode of the season. TIS

My life (and DVR) is filled with practically EVERY (non-baking/cupcake/crap) cooking competition show, that's it's almost overwhelming at this point...!
...but I love it.
