In 2001 Sarno wasn't anywhere close to being acting boss of cicero, let alone the outfit as a whole! Lol. Sarno may have know about it, and may have even played a part in the Hatch murder. Calabrese was know to report to Jimmy I, and Sarno was either about to or just had gotten off of federal parole. The rumors were Hatch wanted Monteleones' spot when he died, and Caruso and the bosses were not going to let a wildcard have Chinatown.

Sarno as acting boss of Cicero in 2001 is very believable, if only for the fact that he was the only guy left! Literally, every made guy in that crew was in jail, except for Tornabene.

Mike Spano and Jimmy I were both out, and doing way bigger things then Sarno at the time. As soon as they were busted, in I believe late 2002, is when I think him and Sam were bumped up in that crew. Also at this time,2001, Little Jimmy was getting ready to be released, and still had control. The argument between Mickey Marcello, Schweihs, and Hatch happened outside a Northlake restaurant, and 11 days later the Hatch is history.

Spano and Inendino were under indictment throughout 2001. Not to say that they couldn't run things, but it does make it a bit more difficult.

You're missing the point here. Sarno, the Spanos, and Jimmy I are all members of the same crew. They're all Ferriola guys. Cicero Crime Family. Mike Sarno was for sure running the streets for the crew back then, Inendino was under waaaay to much heat at the time.

Regarding the way the Outfit kills people, the crews/families have often been known to collaborate on hits. Just read the gameplan for the Jeep Daddino hit that never ended up taking place. It's a labyrinth of confusion & meticulous scheming. They're well known for making it nary impossible to trace the crew bosses back to the murders. They also make it a headache to trace the murders back to a specific crew.

Thanks for all the great info. My question is did somebody at the very top sign off on these murders (such as No Nose?)....or is the family truly splintered into independent factions at this point. In my very very limited knowledge of the Outfit, I don't recall rogue crews shooting at each other. I could be wrong though. Thanks.

Huron, im not missing your point that he was with the ferriola crew. If you read back, I agreed with everything you said but the Hatch hit. That was because of the incident in the parking lot with Mickey Marcello. Do you think for one second Little Jimmy would let anyone be disrespectful to him? As for heat, this was right around the time Sarno would be coming off federal parole, the G were probably watching him pretty closely. Sarno didn't rise in stature until after the family secrets indictment. Although he was definitely respected after coming off of a long prison stay.
