A guy here is being held for trial on Murder One--killed two people and burned down their home to try to cover it up. He claimed he was "indigent" at his arraignment, so the judge assigned him a public defender. Now the judge found out that after the arraignment, the perp's father died, leaving him $400k. So, the judge ordered him to hire his own lawyers and dunned him $27k for the public defender's services to date. To add insult to injury: since it's a capital punishment case, he has to pay for two lawyers.

I don't think 20 lawyers would get him off.
