Yes, by all means - please tell us your tales of Poland. As SB said, we would welcome something other than the horrible news stories we've been dealing with for the past few days.
So, bring it on!

Yogi, Thanks for the info on Poland. It sounds like you did a lot, ate a lot and had a good time. Glad you had a superb jaunt. TIS

Don't forget to turn back your clocks tomorrow! Got my power back tonight, but it's kinda funny how meaningless that is when you don't. Over 5 days, I've been up (or not) at all hours of the day/night, because time doesn't mean anything when you're stuck like that. Very weird situation. But I hate Standard Time! Guess it doesn't matter much in the long run, but I hated (when I did) waking up in the dark, and getting home in the dark. Soooo depressing!
I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! lol Whaddaya want me to do? Whack a guy? Off a guy? Whack off a guy? --Peter Griffin My DVDs | Facebook | Godfather Filming Locations

But I hate Standard Time! Guess it doesn't matter much in the long run, but I hated (when I did) waking up in the dark, and getting home in the dark. Soooo depressing! Same here. I could've sworn that I remembered, years ago, that we stopped changing the clocks for awhile. Now, after reading a Wikipedia article, I'm not sure my memory matches up with the facts. Of course, it was quite a long time ago and I probably can't remember anything from those years... Anyway, for those who want a convoluted and sometimes illogical history of the strange thing we call Daylight Savings Time, just click here. Some people like reading about this sorta stuff. Actually, I, on occasion, like reading about this sorta stuff. I mean, why doesn't Arizona observe it? The Hopi Reservation, which lies entirely within that state does not observe it, but the Navajo Reservation, which also extends into two adjacent states, does. Perhaps Turnbull can explain. Deep down, I suspect he knows all that can be known. (And I know the rest.) Signor V.

If I remember correctly, we didn't go back to Standard Time during the oil embargo in the 70's. It was suppose to save on lighting or some other nonsense. I remember kids waiting for the school bus in the dark.

The only time he would see sunshine was once a week. I wasn't a coal miner -- not even close. But even in the 2000's... I commuted to NYC for 3 years, and half the year it was dark at 7am grabbing the bus, and also dark again at 8pm+ getting home. You really want to kill yourself at that point, day after day, month after month! I vote for getting rid of STANDARD time! What difference would it really make??

I have to cancel my email settings for change dot org. It used to be a good site to keep track of social injustices and whatnot, but I just got one from a guy who's disgruntled because he has to work at Target on Thanksgiving. So he's taken to the Internet to protest. That's an injustice? If the guy wanted holidays off he should have stayed in school .

Nonetheless, it's kind of disappointing that the ugly tentacles of Black Friday have finally extended into the Thanksgiving holiday.

The ugly almighty dollar has taken over common decency. I've worked at WalMart and when old man Walton was alive something like this would NEVER be allowed. Walton, and his company prided themselves on family values. They've dropped that and now lead the charge to dupe customers from their money. It's sickening to me. Dunno who is worse, though .... the customers who will knock down and step over each other in an attempt to buy a HD tv for $150 or the corporate wholesalers who allow this stampede to intrude on family time during the big holiday.

If the guy wanted holidays off he should have stayed in school . Really? So, everyone who has a retail job is an underachieving drop-out? My nephew lives in Virginia and graduated from James Madison University with a bachelor's in business. He was offered a well-paying job in asset protection with Target when he graduated a few years ago. He took the job because it was a poor economy. Thanks to the fact that he lives five hours away and works like an ungodly number of hours at this time of year (and doesn't make overtime because he's "management"), he has been unable to have a Thanksgiving or a Christmas with his family. Thank God he got a new job a few years ago, and for the first time since he graduated college, he's going to be with us for Thanksgiving. I am disgusted by the demands that the stores put on their employees over the holidays. These workers deserve to be with their families and enjoy their time. The stores open earlier and earlier every year. I heard that one of them (WalMart?) is opening at 8:00 on Thanksgiving night!

If the guy wanted holidays off he should have stayed in school.
That's an unfair statement, pb. Completely unfair of me, SC. I was having a bad day Sunday and I'm embarrassed by it in hindsight. My 17 year old son was driving me crazy about his car; the Giants were getting embarrassed by the Bengals; and my 83 year old father was over and acting like he was 17 himself. Eldercare is especially difficult when the elder is as healthy as a horse, yet irascible socially. So I'm sorry if you were offended. I really am. I forgot that you worked at WalMart. And even if I didn't know it, it was still obnoxious of me . You guys know that I was a Teamster for 25 years; a steward, and then later a delegate for many of those years. So the idea of management making people work on holidays against their will is anathema to me. But sadly, unions are dying. Now I don't want to get political here because the Democrats have been responsible for plenty of mishaps in this country, But the decline of unions in America is due in no small part to the Republicans and their war on organized labor. It's revolting. Take away a fair wage, take away the middle class. It's simple math, really. And don't get me started on "Black Friday." But in all fairness to the stores, the idiotic consumers who run away from their Thanksgiving tables at 8 o'clock to save a hundred bucks on a PlayStation are just as much to blame. Fuckin idiots .
