Like Klyd, I turned to the younger generation. My friend's son is a 4.0 Engineering student at Stevens Institute. He's home due to the flooding in Hoboken, so I asked him and my daughter (who yelled, "PEMDAS", but didn't have the mnemonic device Klyd's daugther did) and her boyfriend last night, and they all came up with 7.
