I am not offended. I dislike WalMart .... almost HATE them. The only reason I posted that was to show how reverently Sam Walton was felt about by older employees. He'll be rolling over in his grave when WalMart stores open on Thanksgiving Day this year. (He used to pride himself that he closed all his stores on three days every year .... days set aside for family. Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter Sunday).

But would you agree that frenzied consumers are also part of the problem?

I remember hearing a boss tell his workers-

"YOU ASKED FOR THE JOB WHEN YOU CAME HERE... DIDN'T YOU"



Our workplace is open 24/7 so we know about holidays.We ask who would like to cover the time, and then we try and split things up so you get one or the other day each year.
We may even split shifts so no one gets stuck the whole day. Like people with kids may get the morning shifts and then work later at night after the kids have had their day. And those with grandchildren work the mornings and then have the afternoon to share with their families when they come to visit.

We give extra $$ and then extra days off for those that do work the big days like Christmas and Thanksgiving. Some like the $$ other like the extra time off.

We laugh at the non Christians who must have both days off no matter what and then they MUST have their own religion's days off also. But people who do nothing but take, take, take, usually don't last long....co-workers have a way of getting even with them!

I say a prayer for all that work during these time. What would it be like to be taken to a hospital and find it closed or you got 3rd rate care from some poor sap who got stuck working or was low man on the totem pole.

My wife reminded me yesterday that it is less than 6 weeks till Christmas. I suppose i had better start thinking about feeling festive

One of the saddest things I've ever heard. A parade float of wounded veterans and their wives were going to a banquet in their honor when their float crossed over train tracks.
