Speaking of which, XDC, I wanna hear all about your trip! Where'd you go, what'd you see, do you have pictures, and most importantly, was there drama, or is everything still okay? Originally posted by bogey: Seconded. XDC- Spill your guts!!!! Originally posted by The Italian Stallionette: Yea XXX, how was your trip? I know you mentioned where in CA you were going, but I forgot? Didn't you get some cool and rainy weather? This week it's beautiful and well into the 80's in my area.
TIS Wow...so many people interested in little ol' me. The trip was fantastic, and thankfully...there was no drama...at least until I got home. The weather was about 50/50, I'd say. We had a few cool, rainy days, and a few days where it was at LEAST 400ยบ! We didn't do many "touristy" things this time around. We've done all those things before. There was a last minute switch in where we were staying. We ended up staying in the city of Orange, at an M-6 on Chapman. We could see the Angel's Stadium from where we were (we were literally minutes from Anaheim). Speaking of Chapman Avenue, Chapman is also the street the Crystal Cathedral is located on. We passed by it everytime we were headed towards Target, or to The Block (Zia and TIS should know what The Block is). The trip was great, though. My girlfriend and I worked through the "many" issues we have (some of you know what I'm referring to), and our relationship is stronger than ever now. We went shopping, we went out to eat, saw a movie (The Sentinel), and just spent a lot of time together. It was great. Speaking of going out to eat...there's this Chinese place on Chapman, almost directly across from the Crystal Cathedral. ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIC FOOD...AND THEY GIVE YOU PLENTY! It looks really sloppy....but my God, it was divine. I had some type of spicy pork, and lo mein. The noodles are great. The name of the place eludes me at the moment. The only thing that went wrong while I was gone was my cell phone completely crapping out on me. I don't know what happened. I was texting everyone to let them know I arrived safe and sound. The phone completely shut off. When I turned it back on, it prompted me for my unlock code. I entered it, and it won't accept it. So now I gotta get a new cell. Then yesterday, I had my surgery on my wrist. We had to leave my house at 2:30 a.m, and drive 150 miles to Baltimore. We got there about 5:15 a.m (to Baltimore, that is.) We needed to be to the hospital by 6:30, so we've got plenty of time, right? ...yea, one would think. NO ONE knew where this f*cking hospital was! We printed out directions from Mapquest...but history and experience has shown me that MapQuest it useless. We drove around downtown Baltimore for 2 hours. We asked four different people how to get to Union Memorial...we got 4 different answers! Finally, my father stopped at a parking meter, we got off the car and walked to a bustop to look at a map. We found Union Memorial on the map...but there was no little arrow thingy on the map telling us where WE were on the map. Thankfully, a very nice man joined us at the bustop, and I decided to ask him for help. He told us Union Memorial is uptown. We were about 30 blocks from where we needed to be. The man's directions got us exactly where we needed to be. Had it not been for him, I don't think we woulda found the damn place! So we get there (45 minutes late), but we didn't have to wait very long. Within 5 minutes, I was called over to the registration desk. I signed the necessary paperwork, they took me back, got me changed into my hospital gowns. A nurse came in and explained some pertinent info to me. She then hooked me up to an IV to get some fluids in me. The anesthesiologists (sp?) came in and explained what they were gonna be doing. Then I hugged my dad, and made my way to the OR. They layed me down on the table and hooked me up to an oxygen tank. Then they administered the anesthesia through my IV. I felt it IMMEDIATELY! I told them "This won't put me out...I assure you." I then remember waking up in recovery. My dad told me the procedure took about an hour and 45 minutes. It felt like I was asleep for only 10 minutes! They kept me in recovery for about an hour. The doctor prescribed me some Percocet (woo hoo!) and something for nausea. I was so out of it yesterday, I couldn't walk. I got a free pillow though! I am in an extreme amount of pain. The percocet does help...but it makes me high more than it kills the pain. Wow, that post was longer than I intended...and I typed it all with one hand! Thanks for asking, everyone, and many thanks to those who brave this post!

Being a wordy individual, myself, I was more than happy to "brave" your post, XDC. Glad to hear you had a nice trip and that your surgery was, despite the stress in finding the place, successful. It's also good to hear that things are going well with your GF. Is The Block a shopping center? I found much of what you described very familiar, as I went on a Band trip to California two years ago. We were in Anaheim, and I remember passing by Angel Stadium (desperately wanting to stop, to relieve my baseball withdrawal), and I think we might've gone to The Block. It was this huge outdoor mall-type place, and it seems like that might've been the name. Your surgery experience reminds me so much of my wisdom teeth removal - I really underestimated the powers of the anesthesia, and I woke up later feeling as if I'd taken a ten-minute nap!

When you mentioned Chapman, I thought it sounded so familiar, I knew there was some kind of landmark thing on that street, but I couldn't place it. I'm glad you mentioned the Crystal Cathedral or else it still would have been bugging me now, and maybe all weekend. I've never been to The Block, I don't get out to the OC too often... but I hear commercials for it on the radio, so I do know what it is. The Cathedral though, isn't it crazy? I went once when I was a kid, and a couple of times in the last 5 years or so, just to look at some of the architecture... one of the visitor buildings was designed by Richard Meier, and they just finished it a few years ago. Plus the Cathedral itself... it's pretty impressive, isn't it? Did you go inside? If not, next time you totally should. Go when no one's there though, like during the week, and just walk around. Anyway, I'm glad to hear the trip went well, and glad to hear things are good with the gf! You didn't make it to L.A. for any reason, did you? I'm sorry to hear you're in pain, did they say anything like how long it'll hurt? Hopefully not too long. Feel better soon! Are you sleeping a lot, on the meds?

Oh hell yeah, the meds knock me out. The percocet (oxycodone) usually kicks in within 45 minutes of taking it...and the feeling it gives you is rather....interesting. They also gave me Vistaril (hydroxyzine) for nausea and itching. Now I'd heard somewhere that anesthesia can cause you to itch after you wake up from the sedation. I had no idea how BAD the itching could get. I'm constantly scratching all over my body, and it itches the worst underneath all my bandages. The vistaril helps tremendously...but taking it AND Percocet....it completely drains me of my energy. I've been sleeping most of the day. You didn't make it to L.A. for any reason, did you? No. She and I wanted to get up there, but she needs new tires on her car, and she didn't wanna risk having them give up on her on the freeway. I just wanted me some Greco's Pizza! As for the Cathedral, we actually stumbled across it by accident. We were going down Chapman to go to Target, and I noticed it (how can you NOT notice it?) It looked very familiar to me. Then I remembered seeing it on Laguna Beach, and on a program that aires on one of those religious channels. So everytime we rode by, I'd bust out my digital camera and try to get a picture. But it's not easy capturing a good photo going about 35 mph with cars and palm trees going by. I did get a few decent ones. When we went to that Chinese restaurant, I stood out in the parking lot and snapped some shots. None of them are great, but they are a few that aren't bad. Unfortunately...we didn't venture into the church. I would have really liked to. We just never got around to it.

Thanks for reading, gina! The Block is an outdoor shopping center in the city of Orange. It's a really nice place, too. Some great stores and exceptional dining (but they closed down the Wolfgang Puck restaurant! ) I'll get my pics up as soon as soon as possible!

XxX, Boy, sounds like quite an ordeal with your wrist. I do hope you are feeling better by now and am glad everything turned out ok in spite of all the setbacks. Sounds like your vacation went well otherwise, even if the weather was cooler than normal last week. Went mainly for the 4th of July fireworks. Was a great display. Did you go to Disneyland or Knott's Berry Farm while you were in the area? I imagine you've already been there. Anyway, welcome back! And speedy recovery! TIS

DC - That all sounds incredibly awesome (glad there wasn't any drama!!!) That REALLY sucks about the surgery and the pain and stuff though I meant to IM you earlier, but I've been trying desperately all day to get a cd crack to a game, and its been a no-go so far and its been distracting me so that sucks. I'll get ya the next time I see you on though.

Why does the definition of a gentleman depend so much on the treatment of his other--the woman?
In these weary days, a definition of anything is uncertain; concrete information no longer exists. We have questioned to the point of no longer having questions, but merely uncertainties never to be answered.
The shadow of that monstrous dwarf (as my friend Nicholas Urfe once said), Queen Victoria, and her sexually repressed, hierarchical, class-divided monarchy, is over a century out of date now. A gentleman no longer has any obligation to treat a woman "right". Indeed, what is right, and what is even a woman?
The only thing required of a gentleman now, is the very thing to which we must all aspire. He must be naked. He must constantly seek inner truth. He must never betray himself. We must never betray ourselves. Staying true to external criteria is an always-iffy business, too much in the hands of an other, a judge, a moral hand. And morals must not exist on a social level; the only thing that matters is the self.
This is too throwaway to merit a bookmark; too late to write as a blog, a permanent blot on my existence. It must be frivolous enough to be read by others. The phony others who constitute this world.
But what constitutes them? You?

Who are you? Who... Well, my dear Capo: The moral definitions, those that are not to be measured by scientific means, are depended on what society values. The values of a certain society are very subjective, hence their definition of a "gentleman" might not be the same in another society. In the end, as you put it, it is phony others who constitute morals. But if you don't care for me and my thoughts about you, thinking who I'm even to pass a judgment on you, why should you even care? Carelessly break the mold. But if you still ask me who I'm to pass judgment on you, you're still caught in this phony business yourself, seeking my approval of your manners.
