Basketball in London With a light snow-rain mix falling from gray London skies, there was little activity outside the O2 Arena on Monday morning.
On a day global warming forgot, workers walked briskly to their destinations just outside the North Greenwich subway stop.
Just inside the building that hasn't been standing 10 years, crowds were sparse as shops and restaurants awaited the lunch rush.
And aside from one sign featuring Pistons Brandon Knight, Rodney Stuckey, Jonas Jerebko and Knicks Carmelo Anthony, Jason Kidd and Steve Novak, there weren't any signs that the NBA was about to descend upon the O2.
But the scene will change Thursday when a sell-out crowd will watch the Pistons play the Knicks in what will be the league's 16th regular-season game in a foreign market...

Now this is the Law of the Jungle—as old and as true as the sky; And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die. As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk, the Law runneth forward and back; For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.

Manti Te'o Hoax?? Notre Dame's Manti Te'o, the stories said, played this season under a terrible burden. A Mormon linebacker who led his Catholic school's football program back to glory, Te'o was whipsawed between personal tragedies along the way. In the span of six hours in September, as Sports Illustrated told it, Te'o learned first of the death of his grandmother, Annette Santiago, and then of the death of his girlfriend, Lennay Kekua. Did you enjoy the uplifiting story, the tale of a man who responded to adversity by becoming one of the top players of the game? If so, stop reading...

However, pizzaboy and Lou follow the Mets and Giants So does Don Cardi. It's not so uncommon.

However, pizzaboy and Lou follow the Mets and Giants So does Don Cardi. It's not so uncommon. As I remember, Archie Bunker was a big Mets and Jets fan. He was a loyal Queens guy, but I would have thought that given his age in the early 70s, he might have been more likely a Giants' fan. If Archie could see the melting pot that Queens is today, especially Flushing, where a lot of the show took place and is now home to the country's second or third biggest Chinatown, he'd literally kill himself (or Meathead ).

I'll let some of the New Yorkers to weigh in on this and offer deeper insight. This issue was raised a few years ago in one of the threads if I remember correctly.
I always associated the Giants with the Yankees and the Jets with the Mets because the Giants played at Yankee Stadium while the Jets played at Shea. The Jets and Mets also came into existence around the same time, long after the Yankees and Giants. I would guess perhaps at one time there was affinity between the football Giants and baseball Giants when the latter made the Polo Grounds their home.
I would associate the Rangers and Knicks with the Giant/Yankee base as these Madison Square Garden teams have deeper roots than the Nets and Islanders. However, pizzaboy and Lou follow the Mets and Giants, Geoff, MaryCas and Babe follow the Yankees and Giants and Irish follows the Yankees and Jets. My wife's family are diehard Yankee and Giants fan, but they split over hockey and basketball, none of whom are fans of the NY teams. One of my friends who was from Staten Island said that liking the Islanders is like liking the Mets, you just don't do it. Then again she's also a Devils and Yankees fan so.

As a kid I was a Yankee fan my mother loved the Mick. We saw Mick hit three homeruns in a double header late in his career. They looked like three pop ups that just kept on gong.
Football I was a packer fan.
I did see Namath at his first intra squad scrimmage with the jets in long island some where. They had three quarterbacks that year. John huert from notre dam he won the heismann, namath Alabama he won a heismann in one of her college years and a back they wanted to look at as a quertback who also won a heismann joe bellino?
Namath was overly excited in that first scrimmage. He was firing the ball so hard no one could catch it that day.
The biggest celebrity fan of the jets that I can remember was a kids show host called captain kangaroo he never missed a game.

He also played Clarabell the Clown on the original Howdy Doody Show. I don't know which was more horrifying to look at: Clarabell or Howdy. Buffalo Bob

My son, J, began his varsity baseball season with a win in a frosty, windy game in Lebanon, PA. He went 1 for 3 with an RBI, and pitched two scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts, a walk and a hit. He would have had two perfect innings, but after retiring the first two batters in his second inning, he struck out the third swinging at a pitch in the dirt that got by the catcher.
The team looks like they'll contend for a conference championship at AAAA.
