I think it was back in to 70s that there was a movie about a guy who courted danger and enjoyed it. I vaguely remember once scene where he went to a bad part of town, solicited a prostitute, and ended up getting sliced on his face. He seemed to enjoy all of it. I was thinking the actor was James Caan. Does my description ring a bell with anyone? Oli, At first it didn't ring any bells. I think you might be thinking of Cinderella Liberty. If I am not mistaken Marsha Mason played a prostitute and Caan was a Sailor. I saw the movie when it was first released but I just don't remember much about it. TIS Ok, did a search and checked the title. I think THIS is it, no? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069883/

I remember the main character as a gambler type who courted danger. To add to what I posted above, the scene where he got into it with a bad guy and got sliced on the face, he seemed to enjoy it or take pride in it. Ring a bell?

No Oli, off the top of my head it doesn't ring any bells. Maybe it was someone other than Caan in the movie? I hate it when I know a movie but can't think of the title. TIS

Sounds like The Gambler starring James Caan. I think it came out around 1974. Saw it once, years ago, probably in its initial release.

Signor V. Oh yea, I remember that movie (at least when it was out) but don't think I saw it. Geez, SV, you know your stuff. TIS

Carrie Fisher to Return as Princess Leia in Star Wars: Episode VII I heard Harrison Ford will be joining her. The premise of the film will be their difficulties in a long term care facility. It's true. Apparently, the Emperor had overextended the Empire's unfunded long term care fiscal liabilities resulting in many excluded services at such facilities. To compensate, the Republic imposed burdensome taxes causing several planets to threaten to secede.

A couple nights ago, one of the PBS channels (I think) had an interview with Kim Novak (for the old timers who remember her). I hadn't seen her in ages. She's aged well and seemed very content with her life. Interesting interview; she said she really liked Hitchcock, Jimmy Stewart; said she was bi-polar and her father had many mental problems that there was not medication for at that time; She lives in another state (can't remember which) and lives a a farm, loves animals and is very happy. She said she was never cut out to be a movie star and although had some nice experiences she's happy where she is now. Anyway, it was interesting. TIS

I saw Rita Moreno promoting her new book. Did you know she had a long relationship with Brando? She said it lasted about eight years. I think I want to read that new book. It looks fascinating. No I didn't know that. I mostly know her from West Side Story and more recently in some episodes of Law & Order CI. 8 years? She's probably got good stories to tell. Btw, wasn't Brando's son in jail for murder? I seem to remember a trial a number of years ago. I can't think of his name. TIS

She also told a story about how she and Ann Miller were sent to be "eye candy" at the opening of some hotel. She said the movie studios used to do that all the time, send their pretty actresses to a grand opening. They were in the nightclub and she said this very handsome man and a beautiful woman came in. The man kept staring at her, like he was undressing her with his eyes. She couldn't believe he was being so blatant, especially because he was with this beautiful and classy woman. She said she remembered that the woman was wearing opera gloves, and Rita thought she was so sophisticated and elegant.
Anyway, after the man made her very uncomfortable all night, Rita kept telling her friends about it over the next week. When the next issue of Life came out, the man was on the cover. It was JFK and the classy woman he was with was Jackie. It was years before he was famous, just a politician in Mass. at the time.

BTW, I just googled Brando's son. It was Christian. He went to jail for killing his half-sister's boyfriend, spent a few years in jail, and died of pneumonia when he was only 49. " Oh yea. His half-sister. I do kind of remember BUT I can't say I remember hearing he died. TIS

I've also heard during that time, 1950s or so, agents or publicist would arrange dates between two celebrities to go to the hotspots knowing they'd be photographed. It was all set up for publicity only. TIS

I saw Pacino on Letterman last night. What's with his hair? Does he ever comb it? I didn't see Letterman but I know. He always looks like he got of bed and left the house as is. Speaking of Pacino, I did see brief previews of the movie in which he plays Phil Spector and what a resemblance. Talk about hair. TIS

One of my best friends from high school will be starring in a cable drama on Biography tonight at 10 PM EST and then again at 2 AM. The show involves dramatic reenactments of real life murders involving spouses.
He plays a transvestite, who is plotting the murder of his husband, based on some actual event.
I haven't seen my friend, Tony, in maybe 20 years, but we kind of keep in touch through facebook. His dad was a physician and Tony became an engineer, getting his degree from Lehigh in '86. But his first love had always been acting, which he's been pursuing for more than 20 years, mostly on the stage. I'm going to get a real kick out of seeing him in this show.
